Actress Niecy Nash-Betts, who got married to Jessica Betts in August 2020, recently opened up about holding a ‘grudge’ against friend Colman Domingo for not being appropriately dressed at her wedding.
While appearing as a guest co-host on Today With Jenna & Friends, Nash-Betts revealed that Domingo officiated her wedding. She said,
“I married the greatest love of my life in my backyard with 24 people, and guess who my officiant was? None other than THE Colman Domingo.”
Nash-Betts pointed toward Domingo in a photograph from the wedding, which featured Domingo in a bright outfit behind the couple, and continued,
“Now, I have a grudge against him, because I don’t know what he’s wearing. And I never forgave him for that. I’m like, it’s a wedding!”
Recalling that she was angry about Domingo’s choice of clothing for the intimate event, Nash-Betts said,
“Yellow, and he just looked like a beautiful bumblebee, but I said not for… you’re my officiant! You don’t got black slacks laying around? So it just made me so upset…I said, ‘You look like a fool, what do you have on? What are you wearing?’”

Noting that Domingo is known for his style, Nash-Betts said,
“And now he’s a fashion guru. How come that didn’t happen before my wedding, you know.”
Clarifying that she still loved her friend despite what he wore to her wedding, Nash-Betts said,
“But, I love him. I love you, Colman.”
About Niecy Nash-Betts’ relationship with her wife, Jessica Betts
Niecy Nash-Betts first became friends with Jessica Betts in 2015, when she was still married to her former husband, Jay Tucker.
The pair began dating in 2019, according to Essence. During an interview with the magazine, the All's Fair actress spoke about the way their relationship began, and said,
“I was nervous at dinner, because I felt something. I could not wrap my head around it. I was trying to see if I was off, ’cause I wanted to keep the night going. And the night turned into the rest of my life.”

Nash-Betts revealed that it was initially difficult for her to come to terms with her feelings for Betts. During her conversation with Essence, she noted,
“Not only was it challenging for me to realize I’m having feelings for a woman that I’ve normally had for a man, but it was compounded by the fact that this is my friend. I thought, What I do not want to do is anything that would allow this person to not be in my life for the rest of my life.”
It was only a year later that the couple tied the knot at an intimate ceremony in their backyard. While speaking to People Magazine that year, Nash-Betts opened up about being in a relationship with a woman, saying,
“I was not suppressing my s*xuality my whole life. I love who I love. At one point in my life, I married twice and I love those people. And today I love this person. I've done everything I wanted to do on my own terms and my own way. So my choice now in a partner has nothing to do with who I've always been. It's a matter of who I am in this moment.”
Five years later, the couple’s love is still going strong as Niecy Nash-Betts confirmed during the Today Show that Jessica Betts is her “soulmate.”
