Comedian Aries Spears spoke out after allegedly receiving backlash for performing at the Riyadh Comedy Festival. In a self-recorded video on Instagram posted earlier this week, he said he initially wanted to wait for a while before posting. However, he then said:

“First of all, a big shoutout to Riyadh and the citizens of Saudi Arabia. Had a great time. I love you all. Thank you for hospitality.”

Aries Spears then mentioned how comedians like Marc Maron faced backlash for performing at the Riyadh Comedy Festival. He asked:

“When did America become the moral compass on human decency and human rights? Did we forget 400 years of slavery, the greatest crime against humanity? 400 years of m*rder, r*pe, mayhem, torture, ab*se? Did we forget about the genocide of the Native American Indian?”

Aries Spears then discussed how black people are treated and the police's brutalization of them. He said it was the common people’s tax money that goes into their salaries. Spears said that, contrary to their responsibility of protecting and serving their fellow citizens, the police often mistreat them. He said:

“Are we really f*cking playing this game? Knock it off. Stop the f*cking hypocrisy. America has just as much blood on its hands as any other f*cked up nation, country, or continent. Have a good day.”

In the caption of his Instagram post, Aries Spears expressed his pride in being an American and his love for his country, while also urging people to stop being fake or unfair. He said that people and governments could change if they took the first step, and he thought this was an important one.

What did Aries Spears say about the Riyadh Comedy Festival?

Aries Spears shared an Instagram post, writing about his experience at the Riyadh Comedy Festival:

“Much love and respect to the city of RIYADH had a blast in Saudi Arabia at the comedy festival! Wonderful people wonderful time wonderful cuisine like Karl Malone said in the last dance “I don’t care if u called me last, I got the call” & to all the comics hating bk home do you smell that??? That’s called HYPOCRISY……KNOCK IT OFF! P.S. TO MY HATERS…….YEAH YEAH YEAH I KNOW IM WASHED UP & I FELL OFF.”

In April 2024, Aries Spears appeared on The Breakfast Club podcast, where he stated that he was one of the most misunderstood people in the industry. He said it was more because of a “certain exterior.” He said:

“And then people see me in interviews and based off things I say. Apparently truth is the new hate, you know. Opinionated is the new bitter, you know what I mean? I'm just honest about what I you know how I feel about things I speak it how I see it, how I feel it, and people misconstrue that sh*t for hate which is ridiculous.”

Aries Spears said he grew up in a time when people spoke their minds. When Charlamagne Tha God asked if he felt misunderstood, Spears said he thought people had misunderstood him from the start, especially in the social media age.

He explained that being honest often got twisted, and if his opinions were different from what most people agreed with, others saw it as hate. He said he didn’t think he always had to agree with everyone just to fit in.
