Rosie O’Donnell didn’t hold back when it came to Jeff Bezos’ recent wedding to Lauren Sanchez. The comedian voiced her disgust in a sharply worded Instagram post. Rosie O’Donnell specifically questioned Oprah Winfrey’s decision to attend the event, writing,
“Is Oprah friends with Jeff Bezos? Really? How is that possible? He treats his employees with disdain. By any metric he is not a nice man.”
Oprah was seen at the wedding with Gayle King. The two women have a long-standing friendship, and King had previously joined Sanchez on a Blue Origin spaceflight earlier this year, courtesy of Bezos’ aerospace company.
Rosie O’Donnell blasts Bezos Wedding, compares Lauren Sánchez to a “Fake Fem Bot”:
She described the days-long event in Venice, Italy, as an obscene display of wealth.
“The Bezos’ wedding. It turned my stomach seeing all these billionaires gathering in the gross excess of it all. The show of it,” O’Donnell wrote.
The lavish affair drew a crowd of high-profile names like Sydney Sweeney and Leonardo DiCaprio. The billionaire bash, staged against the backdrop of one of the world’s most historic cities, struck Rosie O’Donnell as out of touch.
Rosie O’Donnell also took a dig at Lauren as she compared the Journalist to a feminine humanoid robot.
“And his fake fem bot wife who looks like that… Why would he choose her after the salt of the earth Mackenzie [Scott]? Sold his soul is what it looks like from here. The devil is smiling at all his conquests.”
Billionaires, boats, and blowback: Jeff Bezos’ Venice wedding under scrutiny online
As CNBC reported, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s wedding in Venice may have racked up a bill of $50 million, although the event’s full scope remained confidential, perhaps in part due to the growing unrest it stirred locally.
With a net worth estimated at $230 billion by Forbes, Bezos has reportedly pledged charitable donations as part of the wedding, including €2 million earmarked for Corila, an academic organization focused on the health of Venice’s lagoon ecosystem.
Even so, the scale of the event didn’t go unnoticed. Many of the guests arrived in signature billionaire fashion aboard helicopters, yachts, and private jets, making use of Venice’s top-tier shopping and luxury accommodations in the days leading up to the ceremony.
Not only Rosie O’Donnell but other celebrities like Actress Charlize Theron also threw shade at the Bezos nuptials during her Africa Outreach Project event.
“I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding. But that’s ok because they suck and we’re cool,” she told her guests.
The wedding added fuel to an ongoing debate among Venetians about the city’s identity and sustainability. Long under strain from over-tourism, Venice introduced a tourist entry fee last year. The fee being the first of its kind globally, to address crowding and preserve daily life for residents. The wedding, some critics argue, highlighted just how far removed the super-rich are from those realities.
Before she married a billionaire: Who is Lauren Sánchez?
Long before she married one of the world’s richest men, Lauren Sánchez had already carved out a name for herself in media. An Emmy-winning journalist and former Good Day LA co-host, she balanced her on-air work with flight training, eventually earning her pilot’s license.
Her aviation journey led her to a groundbreaking role in April 2025, when she flew on Blue Origin’s NS‑31 mission, the first all-female spaceflight, alongside Katy Perry and Gayle King.
Sánchez and Bezos went public with their relationship in 2019, following his divorce from MacKenzie Scott after 25 years of marriage. The couple announced their engagement in 2023 and exchanged vows in Venice on June 27, 2025.
