Actor Chris Pratt is currently promoting his upcoming film, Mercy. Recently, while attending New York Comic Con on October 9, the Guardians of the Galaxy actor shared some interesting information about his latest role.

While speaking on a panel for the film alongside his co-star Kali Reis and director Timur Bekmambetov, Chris Pratt gave fans in attendance a peek behind the curtain at his process for playing a character confined to a chair for the majority of the film’s overall runtime.

"I asked them to confine me in it. So I couldn't, I didn't have to pretend that I was strapped down."

While this seems like an arduous undertaking, all those involved believe it was for the better of the film, especially Pratt.

During his appearance on the Mercy panel at New York Comic Con, Chris Pratt went on to describe the intricacies of how he put his performance together.

"I was cuffed to this chair both at the feet and at the hands. And for part of it with my head at the end when I'm about to be — well, I don't wanna ruin the movie! — but, I'm strapped to this thing."

Pratt went on to add that the uncomfortable nature of his process ultimately translated positively in his final performance on screen,

"There's a certain level of claustrophobia that you just naturally feel when you're strapped down to something, and that was helpful, in fact.”

The actor also mentioned that while the production team gave him the option to integrate a failsafe, he ultimately denied.

"They said, 'Well, if you want to get out, just, pop, you do this,'"Like, I don't wanna get out. I want you to lock me in so I can't get out. That would be helpful to me in giving this performance that I'm completely stuck here."

During the NYC Comic Con panel, Chris Pratt also confirmed an easter egg visible in the film's marketing as an homage to a classic movie in the action genre. Pratt noted that his character is seen barefoot while in the chair, a nod to Bruce Willis' character John McClane in the first Die Hard film.

Chris Pratt’s upcoming film sees him portraying a husband on trial for the murder of his wife, with a twist: the justice system is powered by AI. The ensemble cast also includes Rebecca Ferguson, Annabelle Wallis, and Chris Sullivan. Mercy is set to release in January 2026.
