A Snapshot of Strength: Jillian Lauren posts from Surgery
On March 3, Lauren shared a picture on Instagram, flashing a thumbs up straight from the operating table.
In the caption, she wrote:
“I’d like to thank the Academy, my amazing hair and makeup team, and the lighting designers here at [Glendale Adventist Hospital]. As if they all hadn’t been through enough with the fires right next door! Yes, I have a little bit of the C word y’all. I know a lot of us do.”
She continued:
“I’m here to thank the incredible oncology team here, who pulled me through a complicated operation without a hitch. I am always so grateful for every second of the compassionate, and excellent medical care I receive in my life. Thank you to all the remarkable health care workers, who take our lives in your hands. And let’s all breathe.”
In another post, she shared an update:
"Three weeks now. Two back to back surgeries including a full hysterectomy. I feel called upon to mention it, because i know only two people who had this procedure and neither is with us today. They weren’t here for me to call, and ask what to expect. I’m saying: I’m here. Ask me. I’m okay and healing today."
Why was Lauren shot by LA police?
Los Angeles police shot Jillian Lauren on Monday while investigating a hit-and-run case in her neighborhood, according to a report by The Guardian. According to BBC, she allegedly fired her weapon at the hit-and-run suspect. She reportedly refused to lower her weapon.
Lauren was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. After the shooting, she briefly entered her home before returning with another woman, who was later confirmed to be her babysitter.
Both were detained by officers on the scene. Authorities later determined Lauren was not involved in the original hit-and-run.
Lauren and the babysitter were eventually released from custody.
Jillian Lauren's Story:
Jillian Lauren, born in 1973 in Livingston, New Jersey, began studying acting at New York University before ultimately dropping out. At 18 years old, she was approached by a man identifying himself as a casting director, who was ready to offer her $20,000 to spend two weeks socializing with a wealthy businessman in Singapore , a pivotal event she later detailed in her memoir, Some Girls: My Life in a Harem.
In reality, the man who had presented himself as a businessman was Prince Bolkiah. Shortly after arriving in Borneo, Lauren discovered that her role was not what had been advertised; she had been recruited to join the prince’s harem, a group of women brought in to provide him with entertainment.
Jillian Lauren shared in her memoir that during her time with the Prince, several girls were typically present, who were brought in from various parts of the world. Across roughly 18 months, she said she received a total of about $300,000. Beyond that, she was also given gifts, pieces of jewelry, high-end clothing.
