"My hero is the coolest, most badass human being I know"—Michael Madsen's son Luke shares touching tribute to 'hero' dad

The Reservoir Dogs star, Michael Madsen, took his last breath in his Malibu house in California, where he was found dead on July 3, 2025. Madsen was 67. Michael Madsen's youngest son, Luke, took to his Instagram to pay tribute to his late father and shared an emotional carousel post with a bunch of pictures of himself when he was a kid with Michael. He captioned the post:

"Some Peoples Hero’s Wear Capes. And Fly Shooting Lasers Out Of Their Eyes. Some peoples Hero’s Can Fight Off Armies And Overcome Anything."

He continued and wrote:

"My Hero Wore A Cowboy Hat. My Hero Stood Taller And Stronger Than Any Man I’ve Ever Met. My Hero Understood Me Better Than Anyone. My Hero Is The Coolest Most Badass Human Being I Know. Not Only Was My Hero A Famous Tough Guy Movie Star. My Hero Was My Father. And He Was. Damn Good One. Love You Pops."

While he mentioned his late brother Hudson, who committed suicide at the age of 26 in 2022, Luke ended the post by saying:

"I’ll See You Again Someday. Tell Hudson I Said Hi."

Michael Madsen had a cardiac arrest

As per NBC 4 Los Angeles, the Free Willy actor, Michael Madsen, was declared deceased on July 3 after deputies of Los Angeles County responded to a 911 call at his Malibu residence. Ron Smith, who was Madsen's manager, informed People Magazine,

"What we understand is Michael had a cardiac arrest and was found unresponsive in his Malibu home earlier this morning."

Michael Madsen's managers, Susan Ferris and Ron Smith, along with his publicist, Liz Rodriguez, shared a statement after the actor was confirmed dead. Their statement said that the actor had been working on some independent films. He was also working on a new book, Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems, which he was getting ready to publish.

Their statement concluded with,

"Michael Madsen was one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, who will be missed by many."

Michael Madsen is widely known for his collaboration with Oscar-nominated and critically acclaimed filmmaker Quentin Tarantino. Michael, who starred in several highly rated and critically acclaimed films like Thelma and Louise, Donnie Brasco, WarGames, and so on, had also collaborated multiple times with Quentin Tarantino in cult classics like Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill. Some of his other films with Tarantino include Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood and The Hateful Eight.


Michael was married to actress DeAnna Madsen, with whom he shared three sons, Kelvin, Luke, and Hudson. He also had two other sons, Christian and Max, with one of his former wives, Jeannine Bisignano.
