The concert was the second last night of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour in Toronto. The tour started in March 2023 in Arizona and will end in Vancouver with three shows scheduled from December 6 to 8, 2024 at BC Place. As per reports, the Prime Minister exchanged friendship bracelets with fans at the concert. On July 5, 2023, Justin Trudeau shared a post on X asking the singer to make a stop in Canada for her Eras tour. Hoping to see her perform, the Prime Minister wrote,
“It's me, hi. I know places in Canada would love to have you. So, don't make it another cruel summer. We hope to see you soon.”
On November 15, 2024, he shared a post on X appreciating Taylor Swift for wrapping the Eras tour in Canada. However, he also asked ‘Has this always been your endgame?’ Saturday marks the conclusion of two weekends of Toronto concerts for the Eras Tour, which has spanned five continents with nearly 150 shows.
Taylor Swift’s Toronto concerts have attracted thousands of fans from around the globe. Moneris, a Canadian payment services provider, reported that citywide spending surged by 57% across all categories during the first three days of the Toronto stop on the tour.
Meanwhile, according to The Economic Times, Justin Trudeau has been facing immense pressure, including criticism over Canada's worsening housing crisis. Economists warn that halted condo sales and stalled project funding could exacerbate the issue. Rising interest rates over the past two years have priced many Canadians out of home ownership, and relaxed mortgage rules have provided little relief.
