Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh have now become media sensations for their upcoming release We Live in Time. However, the actors are now inseparable even during the other’s absence.
Since Pugh was away for another shoot, Garfield brought a cardboard cutout of the actress for the film’s premiere at the London Film Festival.
He was spotted walking the red carpet with the cardboard cutout in which Florence Pugh wore a sheer black polka dot dress paired with high-rise briefs. The actress later apologized on her Instagram Stories for being unable to attend the festival.
Andrew Garfield’s gesture has made fans go into a frenzy. One X user wrote:
“me faking a relationship with my crush.”
Other netizens praised Garfield’s sense of humor, while some social media users shared that they had done similar things.
“This guy has an incredible sense of humor that always leaves me in stitches!” a netizen reacted.
“Holy s*it that fit goes absolutely insane,” a fan commented.
“When the multiverse is out of budget, you just print your own Florence Pugh,” a social media user wrote.
“me w my zayn cutout when i was 14,” an X user reacted.
Fans were surprised to discover it was a cardboard cutout and praised Andrew Garfield for how he interacted with it.
“Andrew treating Florence’s cardboard cutout with more respect than most of us treat our real-life relationships,” a person commented on X.
“Legit thought it was Florence for a second until I swipped to the second pic,” another X user wrote.
“how does he have chemistry with a cardboard cutout,” another fan reacted.
Florence Pugh praised Andrew Garfield calling him a ‘Genius’
Florence Pugh shared snippets of her cardboard piece on her Instagram story and wrote the joke was a genius move while praising Andrew Garfield. In We Live in Time, the British actress plays a young chef diagnosed with cancer, while Garfield takes on the role of her partner and the father of their three-year-old daughter.
The film, currently being shown in select theaters and set to release nationwide on October 18, 2024, earned a standing ovation following its debut at the Toronto Film Festival on September 6, 2024.
In a People Magazine exclusive from October 16, 2024, Andrew Garfield mentioned he was initially reserved around Florence Pugh. He said,
“I was really scared. I think we were both really scared and nervous because it takes a while to get to know someone. There's layers there. There's defenses there. I am someone, who on first meeting someone, I can be quite shy and quite protective and it takes me a while to really let someone know me. But then, when they're in, there's no getting out.”
When the duo presented the awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2023 Oscars, Garfield recalled that Pugh playfully teased him just before they stepped on stage in front of the audience.
He mentioned they had very different approaches to such moments, as he preferred to understand the structure beforehand and then let things unfold naturally in the moment.
