A wild coincidence has left Katy Perry baffled ahead of her upcoming voyage into space.
The pop star, 40, is set to travel into space via an all-female space flight with figures like Lauren Sanchez, Gayle King, and Amanda Nguyen. However, in a new video on Instagram, Perry said that a day after her "space training," she noticed two positive signs.
The songstress revealed that she saw an outline of a feather on the space capsule, which is named "tortoise". Katy Perry further divulged that her mother has long referred to her as "feather" and "tortoise".
Fans have since begun interpreting the coincidence, with many dubbing it ominous. Here's how one fan reacted, for instance:
"maybe i've watched too many dead pop star biopics but im worried asf"
The comments didn't end there. Some netizens expressed their fear around space travel and the confusion about Perry's choice to take on this journey!
"Why would a non-astronaut go to space...? Why risk your life like this?" one user probed.
"Idk. I think something bad is gonna happen," another claimed.
"Maybe it’s just me but this feels a little off….." yet another echoed.
"katy i’m scared," someone else penned on X.
Although some scores online were visibly confused over what to make of Katy Perry's upcoming flight, the others also voiced their excitement:
"im actually scared for her," one user penned.
"That's such a sweet and symbolic touch The feather and Tortoise make it feel so personal love that she’s bringing a piece of her mom's love with her on this incredible journey. Can't wait to see how it all unfolds tomorrow," someone else chimed in.
"This is so cool! Katy Perry going to space with a capsule named Tortoise and a feather outline is such a sweet nod to her mom’s nicknames. Can’t wait to see how this journey goes!" another user echoed.
"something is gonna go wrong omfg i feel it," yet another naysayer noted.
Scores online were visibly divided over what the singer thought were "positive" signs, with many asserting that there was no need for her to be going to space in the first place.
Here's what Katy Perry has to say about her upcoming space flight:
The Woman's World singer began her video on social media and explained her belief in looking for signs from the universe. She stated,
"T-minus one day before I get to go to space. I think if you know me, you know that I'm always looking for little confirmations from the heavens, my guides, angels, higher-self..."
In addition, she went on to explain what led to her feeling extremely positive about this space flight.
"On the capsule, on the very front of it, is the outline and shape of a feather and when I saw that it was a total confirmation, as my mum has always called me feather". We're in space training today ... they show us the capsule ... they reveal the capsule name and its name is tortoise. A wave, just the most energetic wave shot through my body. I was like, 'What?' My mum calls me two nickmames, feather and tortoise. What are the chances? There are no coincidences and I'm so grateful for these confirmations... something bigger than me is steering the ship".
The trip to space is expected to leave on Monday, April 14, in the US. It is going to be an 11-minute flight from Texas to the brink of space and back. Following her trip, Katy Perry will embark on a global tour, with her first show slated for April 23 in Mexico City.
