As rumors continue to swirl about who we can expect to take the mantle as the next James Bond, especially following the Amazon acquisition, social media users have settled down into camps of who would be best suited to take over the role. One name at the forefront of all the noise is Aaron Taylor-Johnson, a capable actor whose name has been in the mix for quite some time now.
Recently, when asked about a successor to Daniel Craig’s iconic portrayals of the character, another former Bond entered the chat and gave his two cents. Goldeneye era Pierce Brosnan confidently asserted that “I think he would be very good” when asked about Taylor-Johnson as the eponymous spy by Yahoo Entertainment, a nod that certainly won’t hurt the actor’s chances of securing the uniquely and intensely sought-after role.
More on Pierce Brosnan and Aaron Taylor-Johnson
An interesting piece of this lore is that the former 007 worked with Taylor-Johnson in 2009 on a film that Brosnan executive produced.
“I cast him in one of the movies I made a long time ago called The Greatest, actually, and he played ‘the Greatest.’”
Brosnan went on to say,
“This young man came on the set, and took the space, filled the space with passion and energy. So yeah, I think if he wished it, wanted it and got it, he would be great.”
Brosnan’s endorsement of Aaron Taylor-Johnson comes on the heels of the 71 year old actor being questioned about his own possible inclusion in the franchise moving forward. In an April 2 appearance on the Today Show, Pierce was asked directly about reprising the role and the actor did not shy away from a response. Brosnan asserted that he "could get away with" coming back, adding that it would probably have to be, "in a pinch."
He went on to add, on the topic of a possible Bond comeback
"Let’s see where the wind takes us. Let’s see what happens. They know where to find me. Why not. I mean, there’s great things you can do with AI as well, so there you have it. I’m quite content the way it is."
The reality of the on-going situation is that Brosnan's Bond has likely officially ridden into the sunset, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson is next in line to play the British super-spy. While this has not been set in stone, it appears to be the way forward for the franchise that we can only hope is now in capable hands.
