“Boyfriend” singer Dove Cameron recently revealed the details about her first-ever paid gig. In a recent appearance on Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast, Cameron shared that the job happened to be alongside a very prominent Hollywood A-lister who happens to have flexed his singing chops for audiences on several occasions.

As it turns out, the gig in question was a live performance with none other than Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields, who make up the hauntingly theatrical gothic duo, Dead Man's Bones. At the time, Cameron was just a kid — wide-eyed, full of wonder, and unknowingly stepping into a moment that would become a surreal highlight of her youth. The experience seems to have stuck with her nonetheless, as she shared on the podcast that,

“…it’s really quite good. I still listen to it. It's very experimental,"

According to Cameron, Gosling and Shields’ band was peak creative expression. She joined the group for a performance as part of a "ghostly children's choir" while growing up on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Cameron had already gotten some experience under her belt in local theater productions, however, the Dead Man's Bones show marked her first real show. "I got paid, like, $120 or something," she joked with Dax.

In the aftermath of her appearance alongside Dead Man's Bones, Cameron’s career skyrocketed once she secured the lead role in Liv and Maddie. Dove would later win an Emmy Award for her portrayal on the Disney Channel show. Following her star-making turn on Liv and Maddie, Cameron went on to star in the Descendants series as well as Apple TV+'s Schmigadoon!. Cameron has also flourished as a singer.

It seems that a career in the performing arts was always in the cards for Cameron who opened up to Shepherd about her parents’ role in her rise to fame.

"My parents wanted absolutely nothing less for me than to be in film and television. I think it was something that they felt was kind of inevitable, and that was my sales pitch. I was like, 'I'm gonna do this when I turn 18 with or without you. I would really love your support, and I would love to start before it gets much harder for me to start when all the other girls are 18,'"

As for Dead Man’s Bones, the dup of Gosling and Shields released their self-titled album in 2009 featuring tracks like "Lose Your Soul" and "In the Room Where You Sleep." They have not however come forth with a sophomore record in the interim.
