"I felt like I was failing at my job" — WWE star Charlotte Flair opens up about her divorce

During an April 4 episode of Sherri, WWE star Charlotte Flair opened up about her divorce from Andrade El Idolo after four years of marriage.

She said:

"I felt like I was failing at my job, I felt like I was failing in my personal life."

Flair teared up, breathed deeply and continued:

"Hold on, let me gather myself. When I made the decision to file for divorce, the only thing I kept thinking was I just didn't want anyone to know. Oh my gosh, I have failed again."

Charlotte Flair mentioned that she was afraid of being compared to her father, Ric Flair, who recently announced his split from his fifth wife, Wendy Barlow. The WWE star mentioned that she felt shame, and was afraid about public scrutiny on her marriage. She said:

"Everyone has an opinion, even though they don't have the facts."

Charlotte Flair filed for divorce from her husband Andrade El Idolo in June 2024 in Florida, after tying the knot in 2022. Their divorce was signed off by a judge in October, 2024, according to TMZ. The two began dating in 2019, and got engaged in 2020 before tying the knot in Mexico. The reason behind their split remains unknown.

While speaking to PEOPLE in 2022, Charlotte opened up about her relationship with Andrade, saying:

"Before I met him, I did not know anything except my job. When I met him, he opened my eyes to travel and life and love and a different culture. And I was so strict with my job and did not know how to enjoy both life and work at the same time. And he opened me up to that."

The couple celebrated their wedding with a honeymoon in Costa Rica before heading home in Florida.

While speaking to SunSport in March 2025, Flair mentioned about making a professional comeback after having a difficult year,

"2024 tried to end me, it really kicked my a** over and over. The time away, the knee injury gave me clarity and perspective. And I would choose this again and again. But I did come back feeling like people thought I was coming back older and less than."

While speaking to host Sherri Shepherd on Sherri, Charlotte Flair mentioned that she fees like she's living her "redemption story" post-divorce, and that she has found her worth. Flair called her return to WWE as her "biggest comeback yet" and noted that people's opinions do not faze her anymore.
