“I was drinking a lot of water that day” — Shaquille O'Neal reveals why he ran off during live segment of ‘Inside the NBA’

Shaquille O'Neal is getting candid about an emergency in a viral clip from TNT’s Inside The NBA.

During a live broadcast of the show, Shaq can be seen darting off the studio set into the toilet for an emergency. Hot 97 has pointed out that co-hosts Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson had a good laugh at his expense as clips of the same went viral online.

In his recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, however, Shaq told fans what really happened, confessing that he "lied" to him "on national television." He said:

“I was drinking a lot of water that day, so I know I had the No. 2 run, but it was really a No. 1, let’s just get that out the way,” O’Neal said, adding that he was also drinking a lot of olive oil.

Fallon asked him what was going on, and why he was drinking so much olive oil, to which Shaquille O'Neal said:

“I’m drinking olive oil because I want to be sexy. That’s what it said on Instagram, it said if you drink olive oil for 14 days, it’ll clear stuff out and you’ll get yourself a flat stomach. So, I was trying it.”

The former NBA star added:

“It wasn’t a No. 1 run, it was a No. 2 run. I had to go bad. Oh, I had to go so bad! I had to go so bad." He joked, Did you see me squeeze my butt cheeks when I was running?"

During his guest appearance on the late-night show, Jimmy Fallon's producers jokingly brought out a portable toilet and placed it next to his desk, just in case Shaquille O'Neal had another bathroom emergency:

“I like it because I never know what’s going to happen,” Fallon said of the sports show. “Nothing’s predictable.”

In the viral clips, as Kenny Smith was analysing the NBA playoffs that took place on that week in April 2025, Shaquille O'Neal got up from his seat and sprinted towards the toilet.

"You alright, big fella?" Charles Barkley asked, prompting Shaq to respond, "Keep talking, Chuck, we're on TV. I know what we're doing, go ahead." Smith hilariously chimed in, "That's that olive oil you've been drinking. Take some matches!"

Kenny Smith also joined in on the humorous discourse:

"He can't hold it. After 40 you can't hold it!" host Ernie Johnson was simply bemused, saying: "That's a first! That wasn't something planned, was it?"

Barkely and Smith recounted O'Neal telling them he would be drinking olive oil to cleanse his gut. Smith said:

"He's clearing his gut alright!" Barkley quipped: "He's been drinking [olive oil]... he read somewhere that if you drink a shot of olive oil..." Johnson then interjected: "I saw them doing that in the make-up room!" As Barkley continued: "they've been doing it, you've gotta do it for two weeks!"

The Cleveland Clinic states that ingesting a few teaspoons of olive oil a day can reap health benefits.
