Tory Lanez's father, Sonstar Peterson, in a recent sit-down with Power 106 FM, revealed that while he can't reveal a date for Lanez's release from prison, he does know that it is "much sooner than later".
When the radio host asked Peterson if he had received a "realistic date" for Lanez's release, Sonstar said,
"I wouldn't go on record giving a date right now, but what I will say is that there are movements happening in the background and the powers that we can clearly see that this was a hatchet job."
He added,
"There are things happening right now, and like I said, I believe it is much sooner than later."
Tory Lanez has been serving a 10-year prison sentence at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi, after he was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. Lanez had been transferred to a new prison after he was stabbed 14 times by fellow inmate Santino Casio on May 12.
Peterson's recent update on Lanez's potential release comes after he appeared on NewsNation's CUOMO, hosted by Chris Cuomo on May 21, and revealed that his son is being transferred to a new prison after being stabbed while in prison.
Peterson explained that while Lanez isn't receiving any special treatment, his move is a part of California prison protocol following an act of violence.
"He's being moved because it's part of the prison's protocol that when a situation like this happens. They believe it's better for him to be in another facility, and so he is being moved as we speak. One thing of course, we are concerned about is because my son is a high profile person and when things like this happen, there is always some kind of weird news going out trying to spin it to be something else.
What happened to Tory Lanez while in prison
According to a report by ABC News, the spokesperson for the prison stated that Tory Lanez was attacked on May 12 by another inmate, Santino Casio, at around 7:20 a.m. PT and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The stabbing took place while he was serving a 10-year prison sentence at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi.
A message shared on the singer's verified Instagram account noted that Lanez suffered a pair of collapsed lungs and was stabbed 14 times in total, in the back, torso, head, and face.
"Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through."
Pedro Calderon Michel, the spokesperson of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, noted that prison staff began first aid before Tory Lanez was shifted to a local medical facility. Santino Casio, the man who stabbed Lanez, is 41 years old and had been serving time in prison after he was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, and personal use of a dangerous or deadly weapon, as per the prison's rep.
Lanez's father, while addressing the stabbing incident at the time, expressed surprise and clarified that his son is "someone who is liked" and is not known to be a "troublemaker".
Tory Lanez's father, during a May 14 press conference, said that they have "prayed for" Megan Thee Stallion on many occasions, and thanked those around Tory in prison for helping him out after the attack.
