Magic Johnson, the NBA legend, is sailing in style for his six-week family vacation on his luxury yacht called the PHOENIX2. The basketball icon turned businessman is sailing through Europe with his wife, Earlitha "Cookie" Johnson, as well as friends, family, and other celebs.
As grand as Magic Johnson himself, the PHOENIX2 is a superyacht that the Johnsons are renting for €1,150,000, or just shy of $1,255,000, per week according to its website. Johnson reportedly spent over $7.5 million over six weeks to enjoy his vacations, per People Magazine.
All about Magic Johnson's yacht amid his European vacation
The luxury yacht PHOENIX2, which has been rented by Magic Johnson, was built by Lürssen Yachts. The yacht has seven luxurious cabins that can host up to 12 people and an additional 29 crew members. The main suite on the boat is a two-level apartment with private stairways, with a panoramic view of the ocean and a private terrace fitted jacuzzi.
The remaining rooms are dispersed around the ship's three decks and are connected by a central elevator. Some of the rooms could be converted into family accommodations based on the needs of the guests.
The yacht is more of a luxury resort than a yacht, with a gym, three pools, a salon, a wellness center, and an outdoor and indoor movie theater.
Beginning his six-week journey at Antibes, France, Magic Johnson set sail across the Mediterranean. He traveled to Italy (Portofino, Capri, Positano, Nerano, Sicily), Greece (Mykonos, Santorini, Oia, Kefalonia, Kalami, Corinth Canal), Montenegro, and Croatia (Dubrovnik).
The NBA Hall of Famer dined at luxurious restaurants as well while traveling around Europe, including Sicily's Four Seasons Hotel, which was made famous by The White Lotus, which has nightly rates as high as $1,700.
Along with other legends, Michael Jordan, Samuel L. Jackson, and Judge Greg Mathis, he dined at Capri's renowned Da Paolino Ristorante, which is notably located under lemon trees.
He then wrote on Instagram:
“AND I got to hang out with my great friend and the greatest basketball player to ever live, Michael Jordan, and his wife Yvette, Sam and LaTanya Jackson, Judge Greg and Linda Mathis, and John and Vicki Palmer.”
Time on the yacht: Parties, Family and Greek Gods
The Johnsons seem to be having a great time, as Johnson and his wife hosted a Greek-themed party while cruising through the Ionian Islands. Magic Johnson wrote on Instagram:
“We had a fun toga party on the yacht last night with our friends and the crew!”
He was later joined by his family after his guests had left. He shared on Instagram:
”Cookie and I are excited to have our kids Andre, EJ, Elisa, our daughter-in-law Lisa and grandkids Gigi and Avery join us on the yacht!”
Magic Johnson's billionaire blueprint
Johnson has reportedly made investments after retirement through Magic Johnson Enterprises, including ownership of sports teams, real estate, healthcare, and entertainment. He has shares in the Washington Commanders (NFL), LA Dodgers (MLB), LA Sparks (WNBA), and LAFC (MLS).
Magic Johnson also held a historic $25 million NBA deal in the 1980s, which was the longest and wealthiest contract in sports history at the time.
