On March 12, 2025, Millie Bobby Brown sat down with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast to discuss her relationship and working on screen. During the conversation, Brown revealed that she met her husband, Jake Bongiovi, through a mutual friend. When Cooper asked about it, she said:
“We met through a mutual friend. My friend was going to college where he was going to college and I wound up getting his number but never actually called him. I was single and was just kind of like, ‘I’ll put it in my phone.’ I don’t even know why I had it in my phone but I just put it in my phone. She ended up not going to that college.”

She recalled being bored one day and spontaneously deciding to call people. When she reached out to Jake, Millie Bobby Brown introduced herself, and their conversation quickly turned to whether they were both single. After confirming they were, they continued talking, becoming friends over time.
They kept in touch through texts and calls and even watched shows together on Zoom. However, she noted that despite their growing friendship, Jake Bongiovi never flirted with her initially. Millie Bobby Brown told her parents:
“I said to my mom, ‘You’re gonna have to sit in on a conversation I have with him and tell me. Are you getting that because I don’t know if he’s flirting with me or not,’ and I went down to my parents after a phone call one night. I said, ‘He’s either gonna be the maid of honor at my wedding or the groom.’ I don’t know which one. I don’t know. He’s either gonna be my best friend or my husband.”

Millie Bobby Brown's mom observed Jake wasn’t flirting or showing interest early on and seemed respectful. Hence, the Stranger Things actress decided to tell him she had feelings for him but didn’t want it to affect their friendship.
Jake, however, was surprised by her honesty. The next day, he admitted he liked her too and suggested they meet in person, leading to the start of their relationship. Speaking of Jake, she said:
“He was like just he, that’s him, through and through. Like even like he is just that kind of guy like he is so friendly, so nice to everyone. He could literally have a conversation with a brick wall, I cannot.”
In one segment of the podcast, Alex Cooper asked Millie Bobby Brown when he realized she could have a future with Jake Bongiovi. She said after living together, taking care of their dogs, and settling into a daily routine, she knew she couldn’t imagine being with anyone else.
As they discussed politics and parenting, she thought about a future with him in a way she never had with anyone. Although they had talked about marriage, she wasn’t sure when it would happen.
Millie Bobby Brown said when Jake finally proposed, everything felt right and aligned. Coming from families where young marriages were common, she said they had strong role models who shaped their views on love and commitment.
