Former Bachelorette suitor DeAnna Pappas has made headlines amid her arrest on battery charges against her ex-husband, Stephen Stagliano. The incident has led to questions about their relationship, including how they met and when they divorced.
DeAnna Pappas first became a household name when she appeared on The Bachelor season 11 in 2007 as one of Brad Womack’s last two remaining suitors. But ultimately, Womack had rejected both her and fellow finalist Jenni Croft.
Pappas went on to become The Bachelorette’s lead in 2008 and got engaged to professional snowboarder Jesse Csincsak. Their engagement was brief, and they broke up within months.
She was introduced to Stephen Stagliano by his twin brother, Michael Stagliano, who was a contestant on The Bachelorette Season 5, which starred Jillian Harris. DeAnna and Stephen started dating in 2009 and became engaged in August 2010. Eventually, the couple got married on October 22, 2011.
Pappas and Stagliano also share two children from their marriage: daughter Addison Marie, born February 6, 2014, and son Austin Michael, born March 1, 2016.
DeAnna Pappas had posted glimpses of their family life over the years on social media, portraying what appeared to be a happy and loving household. TV Shows Ace reported that the pair had it tough behind the scenes. They supposedly sought out therapy in an attempt to solve their problems, according to reports.
More about DeAnna Pappas and Stephen Stagliano's custody agreement and recent arrest
DeAnna Pappas and Stephen Stagliano got formally divorced in June 2024. The final agreement called for joint legal and physical custody of the children, with certain guidelines that addressed alcohol use during parenting time.
The terms forbid either side from consuming alcohol above the legal limit when with their children, and from using narcotics within a dozen hours before their time with the kids. Stagliano was also ordered to pay Pappas $1,000 a month in child support and $1,500 a month in spousal support.
DeAnna Pappas was detained on misdemeanor battery charges on February 27, 2025, in Santa Clarita, California, after an argument with Stagliano. The argument reportedly began when Stagliano showed up at Pappas’ residence to collect their daughter, Addison.
Pappas’ ex-husband claimed she was intoxicated and demanded that she open her mouth for him to sniff her breath. Supposedly, the interaction got physical when Stagliano pushed her, due to which she backed away and locked the door while waiting for the police to arrive.
According to a report by WWBL, Stagliano notified law enforcement first, so Pappas was arrested. Stagliano claimed that she was intoxicated, but Pappas subsequently took a voluntary alcohol and drug test, which proved negative.
Shortly after her arrest, Pappas filed a restraining order against Stagliano, demanding that he remain at least 100 yards away from her.
