“Don’t want to rely on my physical form” - Benson Boone opens up about body image issues amid scrutiny over physique

Popular singer and songwriter, Benson Boone, recently confessed that he has body image issues.

According to a cover story by The Rolling Stone on March 11, the hit musician shared his opinion on taking off his shirts during concerts and his relationship with 'physical form'. The artist told the publication about the art of making someone crazy and that there was a time when the artist used to take his shirt off because he didn't know what else to do.

“I definitely remember there was a time where I would take my shirt off because I didn’t know what else to do,” the 22-year-old said. “After doing a lot of shows, you start to pick up on what people like and don’t like, what girls like and don’t like. There is an art to making anybody go crazy."

The artist further told The Rolling Stone that he did not want people to attend his concert and it to be like a gun show.

"One, I don’t have the guns for that. Two, that’s just not what I’m about.… I don’t want to rely on my physical form to be the primary driver of my shows," said the musician.

He expressed the hassle of focusing on body image and that he is incredibly hard on himself sometimes.

“Because I’m so incredibly hard on myself, and when I start to think about my appearance too much, it just kills me because there’s always something more I could do. There’s always a hairstyle or, like, my arms could be bigger. My shoulders could be bigger. It’s never-ending. I can’t afford to think that way because I will never be happy if I do think that way.”

Boone's career is soaring as his hit Beautiful Things was placed at the second spot on Billboard Hot 100. The singer performed this hit track at the 2025 Grammy Awards where he was nominated in the Best New Artist category.

In an article with People Magazine, Benson Boone expressed how excited he was for performing at the Grammys.

"There's a lot of energy flowing through my body right now," the artist said, adding: "This is very crazy for me. There's a lot of cool people here. I'm really excited to perform. I'm kind of like... crapping my pants right now."

After the success of his album, Fireworks and Rollerblades, the artist decided to extend his World Tour with more performances in some US states.

Born on June 25, 2002 in Monroe, Washington, Benson Boone is an American singer who gained popularity when his singing got viral on TikTok.

Benson Boone caught the eye of Dan Reynolds from The Imagine Dragons with whom he signed a contract to his record label Night Street Records, in partnership with Warner Brothers.

Boone's debut single Ghost Town was released on October 21 and charted in 16 countries. His singles like In the Stars and Beautiful Things have been smashing hits and have topped many charts. His debut album was Fireworks and Rollerblades, which was released in April, 2025, and became an instant hit.

Benson Boone participated in the reality show American Idol in the year 2021, from which he withdrew voluntarily. From opening for Taylor Swift to performing at the Grammys, Boone's has performed in many shows including The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
