Diane Keaton's final Instagram post captured the warmth and wit that made her a Hollywood treasure.
Just months before her passing, the beloved icon shared a sweet snapshot at home with her dog Reggie in celebration of National Pet Day, reminding the world of her deep love for her four-legged companion.
In collaboration with the lifestyle brand Hudson Grace, Keaton wrote on her Instagram in April:
"Proof our pets have great taste too! Happy National Pet Day from HG & @diane_keaton"
The Annie Hall actress welcomed her Golden Retriever, Reggie, into her life in 2020. At the time, she posted a video of her fur-baby playing in her backyard, and captioned it with:
"THIS IS MY NEW DOG, REGGIE!!! IS SHE HALF HORSE OR HALF DOG? MAYBE SHE’S INSANE! I LOVE HER!"
Diane Keaton was an avid dog lover, as shown in her Instagram profile picture, where she poses with Reggie. In her other posts, Reggie is seen soaking up in the pool while playing catch with the actress.
Diane Keaton dies at 79: Celebrities pay tribute to the late Hollywood icon
Diane Keaton passed away on Saturday, Oct. 11, a spokesperson confirmed. She was 79.
Following her death, an outpouring of love and heartfelt messages from celebrities made rounds on the web, such as from Bette Midler, Keaton's co-star in the hit 1996 movie The First Wives Club. On Instagram, she wrote:
“The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has died. I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me. She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was…oh, la, lala!”
Keaton's onscreen husband and daughter, Steve Martin and Kimberly William Paisley, in the 1991 romantic-comedy film Father of the Bride, also paid their tributes.
The Bowfinger actor posted an excerpt from Keaton's Interview magazine exchange with Martin Short:
"MARTIN SHORT: Who's sexier? Me or Steve Martin? DIANE KEATON: I mean, you're both idiots."
For Steve Martin, this "sums up our delightful relationship with Diane."
Paisley, who starred as Annie Banks in the hit '90s movie, honored Keaton on her social media account with heart and dove emojis:
“Diane, working with you will always be one of the highlights of my life. You are one of a kind, and it was thrilling to be in your orbit for a time. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your talent, and above all, your laughter.”
Director Paul Feig, on the other hand, expressed his heartache on X (Twitter) following the loss of his friend.
"I was so honored to call Diane Keaton a friend. She was an amazingly kind and creative person who also just happened to be a Hollywood legend. She has been taken from us far too soon."
He concluded:
"We will miss you, Diane."
