Singer Dawn Richard, who testified during Sean Diddy Combs’ trial, was reportedly mistrusted by the jury members. According to CNN, she took the stand on May 20, 2025, where she recalled being a witness to the hip-hop mogul’s abuse towards Cassie Ventura.

On July 4, 2025, CNN’s Laura Coates interviewed an alternate juror named George, who discussed several highlights from the courtroom proceedings, including Dawn Richard’s testimony. He explained that the judge instructed them to find the defendant guilty only if there was no reasonable doubt.

However, many jurors still had some doubts throughout the case. The juror mentioned that some of the charges and witnesses could be seen differently depending on which side was speaking.

At times, the defense's arguments also seemed plausible from their perspective. Coates then asked if there were any witnesses the juror found hard to believe. He said:

“There was one that, I think, you know, unanimously, we kind of all said, like, wow. Like it was almost like watching, like TV. It was like, you know, I think her name was Dawn Richard. That one.”

He went on:

“On cross examination, I mean I never saw such a cross examination. Was very impressive to watch. I think just how the defense, you know, got into her and really made her, you know, look very not credible. I mean they even wrote in my notebook that it was like a takedown.”

More about Dawn Richard’s testimony against Diddy

Dawn Richard, who was a part of the Danity Kane group, said she saw how violently Diddy behaved at the time, especially with Cassie Ventura. She said she even saw marks and injuries on Ventura’s body. During the CNN interview, when asked if he agreed with the final verdict, George said:

“I understood the final verdict and I think I, you know, because I took a copious amount of notes, overall, 350 pages worth of notes, because at the end, we weren’t told who was an alternate.”

During her testimony, Richard remembered seeing Ventura wearing sunglasses to cover up her bruises. She, along with Kalenna Harper, also wore shades because she said it was:

“To have solidarity, to be a friend, to be a support system for someone who needed it.”

Dawn Richard also stated that the security guards knew about the alleged assaults but never reacted. One instance, which she remembered, was when Cassie Ventura was allegedly assaulted by Diddy in the kitchen in 2009. She said:

“He came downstairs screaming, belligerent, asking where his food was, and proceeded to hit her over the head, kicked her and beat her to the ground in front of us.”

However, Nicole Westmoreland, the defense, questioned the credibility of her recollection. Dawn Richard said she didn’t tell anyone about the incident because she was worried about what could happen to her. The next day, she said Diddy invited her and another woman to his house.

He told them that what they saw was just “passion” and something that happens between people in a relationship. Diddy also warned them that it would be better for them if they stayed quiet about it.
