Cynthia Erivo is all set to be bestowed with another award for her work in the film industry. On August 19, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival announced that its 18th annual Kirk Douglas Award will be awarded to Erivo for "Excellence in Film." The award will be presented on December 4.

Every year, SBIFF holds a black-tie fundraiser called the Kirk Douglas Award, with all earnings going to the educational initiatives of the film festival. This year, SBIFF will honor Cynthia Erivo. This accolade is another feather in the cap of the Oscar-nominated Wicked star, who has already won a Grammy, a Tony, and an Emmy.

As soon as the news of Cynthia getting the Kirk Douglas Award came on the internet, fans started congratulating the actor.

As per the website, the prestigious accolade has been awarded to a "lifelong contributor to cinema." Many on the internet praised the range of Erivo's work in the cinema. Others noted the achievement of the Harriet star at such an early age.

Michael Douglas, the son of filmmaker Kirk Douglas, released a statement on the announcement and highlighted Erivo's talent.

“Cynthia Erivo is a singular talent whose depth, range, and fearless commitment to her craft embody the spirit of excellence my father championed throughout his life. It’s entirely fitting that she receives the Kirk Douglas Award, which celebrates bold artistry and enduring impact in film,” Douglas said.

The award event kicks off with a cocktail reception followed by dinner and a tribute to the awardee. According to the official website of SBIFF, the tribute comprises "clip packages" of the honorees' work. The event wraps up with the honoree receiving the award.
