Ben Affleck confesses flirting isn't his superpower post-JLo split: "It’s not easy for anyone figuring out relationships"

Ben Affleck is back in promo mode, but it’s not just his sequel film, The Accountant 2, that’s taking over the spotlight: it’s also his surprisingly relatable confession about rizz.

During a press junket for the forthcoming movie, the A-lister opened up about his struggles in flirting, revealing how much he connects with his character, Christian Wolff.

“Here’s a guy who’s trying to figure out — he wants to have a relationship with a woman, he’s trying to figure out how to do that, like, how to put yourself out there.”

Affleck went on to explain that Wolff is “like so many of us” and described the character as “not comfortable extending himself.” He also drew parallels to his own struggles with wooing and being smooth around women.

“It’s not easy for anyone figuring out relationships, particularly at the very early part, where you’re trying to gauge, ‘What does this signal mean? Is this person looking at me? Do they like me? Am I going to humiliate myself if I go over there?'”

Meanwhile, The Accountant 2 premieres on April 25.

Ben Affleck’s dating confession comes three months after he and his ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, settled their divorce.

In his tell-all with GQ magazine, the actor revealed that his divorce from Lopez was “drama-free” and that she is someone he has “a lot of respect for.”

“I have nothing but respect [for her]. I guess there’s a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something. But honestly, like I said, the truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or would be interesting.”

Without going into specifics, he made a subtle hint at his headline-making split with the Love Don’t Cost a Thing songstress.

“The truth is, when you talk to somebody, ‘Hey, what happened?’ Well, there is no: ‘This is what happened.’ It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do.”

The Good Will Hunting star continued:

“There is no ‘So-and-so did this’ or ‘This was the big event.’ It sounds more like a couple’s therapy session. … You start going, ‘OK, clearly this person has got these issues. Clearly they have these issues.'”

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, famously known as Bennifer, rekindled their romance in 2021 after initially splitting in 2004. The couple called it quits once again in 2024.

Contrary to his confession of his struggles in flirting, the Hollywood superstar has been reported to be back in the dating pool now that he’s legally single.

People magazine reported in February that the Oscar winner is “casually dating,” as per the publication’s exclusive source. The insider, however, revealed that being in a relationship isn’t Affleck’s priority at the moment, saying:

“If he's not filming, he spends long days at his office.”
