Actor David Henrie recently screened his new film, Monster Summer, and his former co-star Selena Gomez was there as a show of support. He took to Instagram Stories on October 4 to thank the Rare Beauty founder, dubbing her "Sis." While the two are not related, they played siblings on-screen for four seasons of the Disney channel show Wizards of Waverly Place.
In his caption, he wrote,
“Sis… I am always grateful for your support and your belief in me.”
The Lose You to Love Me singer reposted the story with the caption:
“So happy you loved the film.”
Selena Gomez and David Henrie set to reprise their roles in the reboot Wizards Beyond Waverly Place
David Henrie also took to his Instagram feed to express his gratitude for the singer:
"So grateful @selenagomez came out to support my film! The first thing she said was “Why don’t they make movies like this anymore! I loved it!” @monstersummermovie is in theaters TODAY nationwide just in time for Halloween viewing! It’s an ideal Halloween event for the whole family, or if you’re a nostalgic millennial like Sel and I, it’ll be perfect for you too haha"
Selena Gomez and David have been friends for over 17 years. The two first got together for their roles as Alex and Justin Russo on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, which spanned four seasons from 2007 to 2012. The two have returned for another project over a decade later, for a reboot of the same show, titled, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
Selena Gomez is all set to reprise her role in the upcoming show, which makes its debut on October 29. When Disney dropped the trailer last month, fans went berserk. In the first ten days of its release, the trailer amassed 69 million views across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, Deadline reported, earning the title of the most-watched trailer for a comedy series ever for the channel.
The official synopsis for the trailer reads:
"Wizards Beyond Waverly Place follows an adult Justin Russo, who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman, and Milo. When Justin’s sister Alex brings Billie to his home seeking help, Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while also juggling his everyday responsibilities — and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World."
David Henrie and Selena Gomez will co-produce the highly-anticipated reboot. Their on-screen parents, Theresa and Jerry Russo, played by Maria Canals-Barrera and David DeLuise, respectively, are also poised to make a comeback. No word yet on whether the youngest of the Russos will return.
