Al Pacino created history! The 85-year-old veteran actor is the first Hollywood film star to be granted a historical private audience with Pope Leo XIV.

The Oscar-winning actor visited the Vatican and met the U.S.-born pontiff on June 16, 2025. The interaction was hosted in Rome. He travelled to the Italian capital to attend the prestigious meeting.

Rome's Cinecittà Studios is one of the several extraordinary locations to shoot Pacino's upcoming release, Maserati: The Brothers.

Now, the Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood actor is one of the first individuals of the entertainment industry to interact with the newest pope, elected on May 8, 2025, among a special private audience, per Deadline, as cited by EntertainmentNow.

A look at Al Pacino's meeting with Pope Leo XIV in Rome

Along with Al Pacino, producer Andrea Iervolino also received an official papal audience with Pope Leo XIV on Monday.

As stated in a Variety report, cited by EntertainmentNow, several Italian press outlets shared that the actor travelled from New York to meet the pope. He boarded a private jet on Sunday.

This honorary meeting showcases a powerful intersection of cinema and spirituality.

According to Variety, Iervolino noted in a statement on Monday,

"We are honored to announce that this morning His Holiness Pope Leo XIV received in a private audience at the Holy See a delegation from the film Maserati: The Brothers, including Oscar winner actor Al Pacino and the film’s producer Andrea Iervolino."

As per statements shared with Deadline, the producer reflected on this noteworthy moment and called it,

"a moment of profound spiritual and cultural inspiration, centered around shared values that lie at the heart of both the Catholic Church and the film: family unity, love, compassion, and the importance of contributing to the common good."

He continued looking back at the unforgettable experience and noted Pope Leo XIV's thoughts merging with the upcoming movie's themes and more. He conveyed,

"These values, which Pope Leo XIV has consistently emphasized in his recent messages to the world, resonate deeply with the story of the Maserati brothers: a family whose legacy was built not only on innovation and excellence but on profound mutual respect, solidarity, and a shared vision."

According to The Guardian, producer Andrea presented a scale model of a Maserati placed in a glass case to the pope.

Maserati: The Brothers is a high-production biopic on the Mastarati family. The upcoming release features an impressive cast including Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, and Jessica Alba. Pacino will be seen portraying Vincenzo Vaccaro on-screen.
