Archie Comics is set to receive a live-action film adaptation, with a project currently in development at Lord Miller Productions. Company's president, Aditya Sood, will collaborate with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the filmmaking team behind projects like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Lego Movie, and the Spider-Verse trilogy.
While speaking about the Archie Comics adaptation, the duo shared the following statement, as per Variety,
“We are longtime fans of Archie, Veronica, Betty, and the gang in all of their iterations.. When we heard Tom King’s take on the classic material, we instantly thought it made sense as an event movie for all audiences — both lifelong fans and a whole new generation. We’re so excited to bring these beloved characters to the big screen.”
The reports haven't disclosed plot details or an official title as of yet. However, Tom King, the comic book writer behind several Marvel and DC comics, is reportedly penning the screenplay. Jon Goldwater, the Archie Comics Co-CEO and publisher, will produce the project with Emma Watts, who formerly worked at 20th Century Studios, as per Deadline.
Lord, Miller, and Sood will produce through their first-look deal with Universal Pictures, where Christine Sun and Britt Hennemuth will be overseeing the Archie Comics live-action film project.
