John Cena and Idris Elba are again together in the new action comedy Heads of State, where they play Will Derringer and Sam Clarke, respectively. Previously, the actors were seen in James Gunn's 2021 film The Suicide Squad, a standalone sequel to 2016's Suicide Squad.
Will Derringer is the President of the United States, and Sam Clarke is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. And just like we saw John Cena and Idris Elba in The Suicide Squad, they don't really like each other. However, they aren't savages here, as it's a politicians' game.
But they eventually join hands after they are targeted as a part of a controversy. There are a couple of villains here, and one of them is the Vice President of the United States, Elizabeth Kirk (Carla Gugino). She holds a grim view of the rest of the world and has plans to break the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Thankfully, Sam and Will reveal this by the end.
Elizabeth is working with the main antagonist in Heads of State

Heads of State's revelation comes as a shocker as Kirk is working with Viktor Gradov (Paddy Considine), who is the primary antagonist for the better part of the film. He is brutal and ruthless, somebody that our protagonist leaders don't want to mess with. Though Elba's Sam Clarke can think about it for one, as he is a former SAS-trained commando.
Kirk has a scheme with her, according to which, if everything goes to plan, she would break up NATO and then claim she failed to save it. But of course, that can only happen when these leaders can be removed from the game. That is when she needs the help of Gradov so he can kill the leaders in Heads of State.
However, her plan never came into fruition, and this conspiracy is exposed, and she is ironically killed by the one she was working with.
What purpose does Gradov have in Heads of State?

Viktor Gradov is on a hunt for the NATO leadership, but he doesn't simply want to watch the organization burn for no reason. He wants to take revenge on NATO because the organization was involved in his son's death, although it was inadvertent. NATO has been hiding all this, and he plans to reveal all of this and other things that NATO did wrong to break the alliance.
At the end of Heads of State, he tries to eliminate the entire NATO leadership, which is also the reason he kills Kirk without a thought, though he fails, as he is killed by Sam and Will.
After all these thrilling events, Sam and Will also become friends, and field agent Marty, who is one of the most interesting supporting characters of the film, survives at the end.
Is there room for a sequel?

There is most certainly room for a Heads of State sequel, though there is no official announcement for it. Now that the threats are eliminated and the two leaders have become friends, they may join hands together for another threat in a more thrilling story that might again see them, maybe in cahoots.
