Guldbagge Awards 2026: Complete list of nominees

The Guldbagge Awards are often considered Sweden's top film honors. The event has officially returned with a notable slate of nominees for 2026. The Swedish Film Institute has officially unveiled the list.

The Guldbagge Awards ceremony has been scheduled to take place on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Cirkus in Stockholm. It is worth noting that for the third year in a row, actor and performer Shima Niavarani will host the ceremony.

Niavarani shared:

"Rumor had it that an Ai would take on the task this year, but I am very honored to lead the Gold Bagge Gala for the third time. It can work at any cost! What do you give viewers in the finale of a trilogy? I have no idea, so I have gone down the rabbit hole of ideas and scriptwriting to crawl back on gala day and deliver the answer to that question."

Tarik Saleh's film Eagles of the Republic leads the nominations with eleven mentions at the 2026 Guldbagge Awards. The film was selected as Sweden's official Oscar entry for the international feature category. The drama is the final chapter in Saleh's Cairo Trilogy, which follows Boy From Heaven and The Nile Hilton Incident. It also premiered at Cannes.

Speaking about his film, Tarik Saleh mentioned in a statement:

"When I wrote the script and when I directed it, I did not know where the world was going to head. I knew what was happening in Egypt. I knew that there was always this tension there, because the film industry in Egypt is one of the biggest film industries in the world. It serves one billion people with cinema and television. Of course, these mega stars in Egypt become iconic in a way that can only be compared to Hollywood’s Golden Age. People project their dreams onto them. And the Egyptian army is huge. It is one of the 10 biggest armies in the world."
