Hollywood is rife with stories of riches to rags, but juxtaposed with them are the stories of stars earning billions and spending it all on flamboyant luxury ranging from private islands to golden bathtubs or private towns. It is really evident that these actors do not treat their bank accounts as endless playgrounds but seem to indulge without end.

Normally, wealth and coziness go hand in hand with fame, but somehow they leave responsibilities outside the door. Some actors burned their millions on super-luxury cars, exotic pets, gambling in high-stakes category, and personal collection items, while others simply lost theirs due to poor investments, extreme partying, and dusty legal battles.

The actors on this list have all, at one time or another, had more money than they could ever spend, and they certainly have tried to spend it all. From Nicolas Cage's castles and dinosaur skulls, Mike Tyson's pet tigers, and Johnny Depp's $30,000-a-month wine habit, these celebrities prove that when mismanaged, fortune does not last forever. They all serve as a warning example to others in how even the richest stars can go broke.

1. Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp once spent $2 million a month, financing a lavish lifestyle that involved 14 residences, a private island, and an $18 million yacht. Court battles with his old business managers uncovered irresponsible fiscal choices, resulting in multimillion-dollar lawsuits. Even with recent career comebacks, Depp's history of spending is a legendary symbol of Hollywood decadence. Though he's more prudent now, his history is an object lesson in how money can so easily become calamity.

2. Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage's extravagances are legendary, from the purchase of two castles in Europe to a ghostly New Orleans mansion and an island. His weirdest acquisition? A $276,000 dinosaur skull that was seized after being deemed stolen. He had a collection of exotic cars, albino cobras, and shrunk pygmy heads as well. His luxurious ways finally caught up with him and resulted in IRS issues, foreclosures, and lawsuits. Compressed into accepting hundreds of film roles to catch up, Cage has since bounced back economically. While he's dialed it back a notch, his previous excesses are still the most bizarre in Hollywood history.

3. Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck is well familiar with overindulgent spending, especially in celebrity gamblings. He lost millions at blackjack and poker tables, according to reports, and some casinos banned him from playing due to card counting. Affleck also spent lavishly on high-end vehicles, private aircraft, and multimillion-dollar mansions, such as a $30 million Beverly Hills mansion with Jennifer Lopez. His break-up with Jennifer Garner cost him millions, further adding to his financial woes. Though he still makes money from Hollywood, his expensive lifestyle and losses at the gaming tables have taken their toll on his wealth over the years, showing that even A-list stars can't manage money.

4. Kim Basinger

Kim Basinger found herself in headlines in 1989 when she bought Braselton, Georgia, for $20 million in order to redevelop it into a tourist complex. She eventually had to sell it due to financial mismanagement and lawsuits for a loss amounting to enormous sums. For her additional distress, she received an $8.1 million lawsuit for withdrawing from a role in a movie, rendering her penniless. She was compelled to sell possessions to survive. Although she did recover, her town purchase is one of the strangest instances of Hollywood celebrities making foolish investments that don't pan out, demonstrating that fame does not always equal fortune.

5. Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen's $1.8 million per episode Two and a Half Men pay did not last very long, however, due to his decadent lifestyle. He spent millions on expensive cars (some of which he wrecked), outrageous parties, and upscale escorts. At one time, he reported that he spent $10 million on pr*stitutes alone. His wanton spending, as well as legal troubles and medical expenses, landed him in the poorhouse. Sheen confessed to being "broke" after having once accumulated a fortune. Despite efforts to revive his life, his tale is one of warning as to how Hollywood riches evaporate as quickly as they accumulate.

6. Robert Downey Jr.

Prior to becoming Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. was well known for wasting his fortune on drugs, rehab, and courtroom fights. During the '90s, he made millions but spent most of it on expensive cars, mansions, and a perilous drug addiction that resulted in numerous arrests. His addiction cost him film contracts and almost bankrupted him. At one time, he was caught sleeping in a child's bed in a stranger's house. Downey eventually restored his career, but his profligate spending during his fall is a reminder of how rapidly fortune can evaporate even for one of Hollywood's most highly paid performers.

7. Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan was a former Hollywood superstar who raked in millions. Her lavish lifestyle, run-ins with the law, and poor investment choices depleted her wealth. She spent $1 million on designer attire alone, ran up six-figure hotel tabs, and flushed money down for reckless partying, according to reports. In 2012, she had $233,000 in tax debt, which prompted the IRS to seize her bank accounts. She even had to sell off her high-end belongings just to stay afloat. Although she's staging a comeback, Lohan's financial collapse is a reminder of how fame and wealth can evaporate when excess gets the better of us.

8. Chris Tucker

Chris Tucker became a star overnight with Rush Hour, making $25 million per film, but he spent his wealth in a bout of irresponsible splurging. He purchased several mansions, high-end sports cars, and designer jewelry, spending money he did not have. The IRS charged him $14 million in taxes in 2011 and forced him to sell his houses at a loss. Tucker eventually confessed that poor financial choices and lavish spending had left him close to being broke. Although he has since tried making a comeback, his once-gigantic Hollywood wealth was soon depleted by a decadent lifestyle he couldn't afford.

9. Wesley Snipes

Wesley Snipes was among the best-paid actors in Hollywood, but his lavish lifestyle and failure to pay taxes brought him to bankruptcy. He spent lavishly on mansions, a private plane, designer clothes, and exotic vacations, convinced his bank account was never-ending. Yet, Snipes also did not pay his taxes for several years and owed the IRS $23.5 million. His refusal to pay resulted in a three-year jail term for tax fraud. By the time he was finally released, his wealth had dwindled. Though he has sought to revive his career, his irresponsible spending lifestyle is a Hollywood cautionary anecdote.

10. Burt Reynolds

Burt Reynolds was a one-time top-paid actor in Hollywood, but his spending went into overdrive, and he ended up in financial disaster. He purchased several mansions, a private airplane, and a custom-built ranch, blowing millions on high-maintenance items. His split with Loni Anderson put him in the red, and unsuccessful business endeavors such as a struggling dinner theater landed him deeper in debt. By 1996, Reynolds filed for bankruptcy, with $10 million owed. Although he kept performing, he never recovered financially. Prior to his death in 2018, Reynolds conceded that he wished he had been wiser with finances.

11. Brendan Fraser

A Hollywood heavyweight in the 1990s with a string of blockbuster hits, Brendan Fraser has allegedly suffered from a string of unfortunate financial investments afterward. He reportedly spent millions on a lavish lifestyle with luxury estates, expensive cars, and high living. Alimony and child support payments specified in his divorce settlement drained his finances to the tune of $900,000 annually. Fraser later seemed to be chasing these payments reductions through the legal system by alleging that his expenses were mounting because of legal battles, medical problems, and a faltering career. After years of financial struggle, Fraser made a triumphant comeback with his Oscar win for The Whale (2022).

12. Marlon Brando

Marlon Brando, the best actor in film history, was also among the most extravagant spenders. He used millions to purchase his own personal island in Tahiti and spent much of his time in reclusiveness with reckless excess. He indulged his expensive tastes for rare antiquities, luxury houses, and battalions of personal attendants at his beck and call. Even though he earned millions on The Godfather, he tended to be financially strapped because of court cases and child support payments. Although he is still a legend, his spendthrift ways demonstrated that even Hollywood's best can mess up with finances when money has no bounds.

13. Shia LaBeouf

Shia LaBeouf's fortune wasn't frittered on typical excesses; it was lost on weird performance art, attorneys' fees, and drunken hedonism. He spent millions on inflammatory productions, such as a live-apology booth broadcast and wearing a paper bag reading "I Am Not Famous Anymore." His run-ins with the law from alcohol-related arrests to copyright infringement suits, cost him millions in fines and settlements. At one time, he even resided in an abandoned cabin for a work of art. Although he is still a gifted actor, his loose spending and lawbreaking tendencies render him one of Hollywood's most fickle stars financially.

14. Tyrese Gibson

Tyrese Gibson amassed a fortune with Fast & Furious, but subsequently came forward with severe financial woes. Although he made millions, he allegedly spent money on several luxury vehicles, designer watches, and a lavish lifestyle. His custody battle financially drained him, and he ended up posting emotional messages on social media that he was "broke." He even blamed Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for sabotaging his career by holding up a Fast & Furious sequel. Although he is still working as an actor, his financial issues show that even a franchise star can fall when money is mishandled.

15. Pamela Anderson

The Baywatch show made Pamela Anderson millions; however, her incessant spending left her facing financial trouble. She went into debt for over $10 million in renovation work on her homes. She had the IRS on her back in 2009 for unpaid taxes. Once upon a time, Pamela was living in a trailer park due to the loss of her mansion in Malibu. Then, there were several legal squabbles with contractors about the renovations. Anderson has moved on; she is now appearing on Broadway and writing memoirs; however, what happened in the past is a graphic illustration of how poorly managing wealth can lead to dire consequences, even for one of the biggest stars on TV.
