EastEnders is known for its dramatic storylines, and one of the most gripping plot twists involved the paternity of Tommy Moon. It was revealed his father is Michael Moon, but fans always questioned if Alfie Moon is the "real" father based on who raised Tommy.
The Moon family is definitely not like most normal families and have been at the centre of many controversial and intense storylines throughout the soap. Here's everything you need to know.
Who is EastEnders character Tommy Moon?
Tommy Moon was born on Dec. 30 2010, into a world of chaos. His mother, Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace), is a fan-favorite and beloved long-standing character of the show. His father, Michael Moon (Steve John Shepherd), has a dark persona and is the cousin of Alfie Moon (Shane Richie).
While Kat was married to Alfie, she had an affair with his cousin Michael. Alfie accepted the truth about Tommy's paternity and treated Tommy like his own son.
In the Queen Vic, Kat gave birth to her baby boy Tommy Moon. At the same time, Ronnie Branning (Samantha Womack) also gave birth to her son, but unfortunately, her son died during childbirth. Overwhelmed with grief, Ronnie switched her deceased baby with Tommy, taking him away from Kat. This left Kat and Alfie devastated, believing their child had died.
Eventually, the truth came to light and Tommy was returned to Kat and Alfie. Alfie is shown as a compassionate and caring man who loves Tommy like his own son despite not being his biological father.
Meet Tommy's biological father, Michael
Michael Moon was a controversial character during his time on EastEnders. His relationship with Kat Slater was anything but romantic and his presence around Walford brought nothing but drama.
He was very cold and calculating, making life a living hell for those who he was closest to. He wasn't particularly close with Tommy due to his personality and the bad relationship with Tommy's mother.
Michael's departure from the show was very dramatic to say the least. He ended up being murdered by another EastEnders villain Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) in 2013. This didn't impact Tommy due to Alfie's determination and unwavering love for Tommy and Kat.
How is Tommy now?
Tommy Moon has grown up on screen and experienced the typical drama and chaos surrounding Albert Square. With Tommy's tumultuous background, his storylines have quietened, and he's experiencing real-life situations instead of crazy Soapland drama.
Now, as the stepson of Phil Mitchell, it's going to be interesting to see how Tommy's persona and storylines evolve as the character grows more on-screen. With Michael Moon as Tommy's biological father, will his father's cold and evil personality seep through as Tommy Moon grows up? Or will Alfie Moon and Kat Slater's loving influence destroy any signs of who his dad was?
Only time will tell and we can only hope Tommy has a less dramatic up-bringing, but it's EastEnders after all and we all know what can happen on the streets of Walford.
