Days of our Lives star Martha Madison (Belle Black) started a new company last year: The Madison Collective, a boutique restaurant recruiting business. She is using it to help those affected by the fires get back to work.

“Because so many restaurants and hotels were affected, we put the SOS out on LinkedIn, letting them know that anyone displaced by the fires and looking for a job and needing work should reach out to us,” Madison explained to Woman’s World.

According to The Madison Collective website, Madison is at the heart of the company and has years of experience in the field. In addition to being an executive recruiter for seven years, Madison was also the Managing Partner for five of her own restaurants in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York.

“I found my footing during COVID, doing a lot of the same sort of crisis management work for people out of work during that time. It feels a little like a smaller version of that, here in L.A. We have a lot of wonderful clients in L.A. that weren’t terribly affected by the fires, so we’re trying to move some chess pieces around," Madison explained.

Madison felt compelled to pitch in what she could do to help the situation in Los Angeles. “I think the whole city feels the same way. No matter where you are, it’s hard to believe this happened. It’s just tragic,” Madison said. She noted that watching the tragedy unfold for friends and family who lost their homes really affected her, and she found herself filled with rage. “Bad things happening to such great people just seems so unfair,” she added.

Madison was motivated by witnessing the way people of the city supported one another. “The fact that all of the donation centers were full and turning volunteers away is such a testament to the kind of people that come live in L.A. They’re the grittiest people I know, and that’s what it takes in a moment of crisis — you have to find the helpers and the people with the grit to keep going,” Madison explained.

The Days of our Lives actress added that she was a workaholic, noting that being able to stay focused on tasks helped with her ADHD. Between her role on the show and her recruiting company, she has plenty to keep her busy. She relates her real-life work schedule to stay balanced to how her character, Belle, also deals with life’s challenges.

“Not unlike me, the work really anchors Belle at this very uncertain time in her life,” Madison says. “It also helps her express her power. She hasn’t been a particularly powerful character, so she’s a middle-aged woman who’s finding her power for the first time,” Madison explained. She concluded, “It’s not unlike what this last year has been for me, personally. Although my marriage is solid and wonderful, I’m also exploring a lot of those things in a professional sense, so we’re in sync right now.”

Episodes of Days of our Lives can be streamed on Peacock.
