Days of our Lives recap for Tuesday, October 29, 2024: Holly forgives Eric

Tate met up with Sophia in the town square as she left work. “You were waiting for me?” Sophia asked. “Why are you surprised? I mean, last night we had a great time. I mean, at least I did,” Tate said. Sophia agreed that she had had a good time too. Tate asked Sophia out on a second date. Sophia asked Tate to share her takeout dinner with her.

Over dinner, Tate gagged over the escargots entree. Sophia told Tate a childhood story of when she had taken her grandmother’s sea snail salad to school, and kids had made fun of her until Holly intervened by punching one of them. “She got detention, but no one ever made fun of my lunch again,” Sophia said. “So you and Holly were even close back then in first grade?” Tate asked. Sophia nodded yes.

“I never thought we’d lose our friendship over a guy. Well, I guess it was more because she lied to me and betrayed me and then she slapped me,” Sophia said. Sophia said that she admired Holly for pursuing what she wanted in life. “Are you trying to ask me something?” Tate asked. “You told me you weren’t ready to move on from Holly, but now, two days in a row, you’ve come to my job to ask me out. So, have you changed your mind about us?” Sophia asked. Tate told Sophia that he hated that he had ruined Sophia and Holly’s friendship.

“I just wanted to make sure the same thing didn’t happen between me and Aaron,” Tate explained. Tate told Sophia that he had talked to Aaron. “So he gave you his blessing, relinquished his claim on me,” Sophia said. “No, it’s not like that at all,” Tate countered. When Sophia asked Tate if this was his attempt to pursue her, he said yes. Sophia gave a disappointed sigh.

“I thought that’s what you wanted,” Tate said. “I get that Aaron told you he was cool with us dating, but are you sure you’re ready to move on from Holly?” Sophia asked. Tate argued that Holly had gone to Paris, and he did not know if she would ever return. Sophia reminded Tate that Holly had been determined to finish high school in Salem. “And maybe now that we all know your dad is innocent, maybe she’ll feel guilty she gave you such a hard time. And then maybe she’ll want you back,” Sophia said. Tate shook his head no.

“If Holly wanted to work things out with us, I would have heard from her,” Tate said. “But if she were to say she wanted to get back together, you would take her back, right?” Sophia asked. Tate shrugged, and he admitted that he did not know. “That’s what I thought. See, that doesn’t work for me because I’m not a placeholder,” Sophia argued. Sophia told Tate she was not interested in acting as a consolation prize for Tate while Holly was unavailable.

“I deserve better,” Sophia said. As Sophia got up to leave, Tate jumped to his feet and apologized. “I’ve already hurt you before, and so I’m just trying really hard not to move really fast in this,” Tate said. Tate explained that his relationship with Holly had been problematic from the start, and he did not believe it could ever work out.

“That’s why I’m sure that I’m ready to move on,” Tate said. Tate told Sophia that he liked to spend time with her and that he wanted to continue spending time with her. “If you’re okay with that,” Tate added. “Definitely okay with that,” Sophia said. Tate invited Sophia over to watch a movie, and she accepted. Tate and Sophia clasped hands and smiled at one another.

At the Brady Pub, Eric asked Holly about her trip. Holly told Eric about how she had helped expose Abigail as a fake. “Well, I’m sorry the trip turned out to be a little crazy,” Eric said. “It did. But still, I’m glad you encouraged me to go. Because right before I left to come home, I actually forgave my mom,” Holly said. Eric smiled. “I’m so happy to hear that,” Eric said. Holly admitted that she had been unsure about a reconciliation, but the situation with fake Abigail had made her realize why Nicole had lied to her as a child.

“I was too young to understand. And then, then I guess it became harder and harder for either of you guys to tell me because, well, because at that point, I already loved you like a father,” Holly said. “Well, we still should have told you much sooner,” Eric said. Holly understood and noted that she knew her mother loved her. "And that’s what matters most,” Holly said. Eric told Holly he was glad she had made that realization.

Holly told Eric that he was a really great person. "And I forgive you too, Eric,” Holly said. Tears welled in Eric’s eyes. “I would do anything to take back what I did that night,” Eric said. “I know. Grandma Maggie told me how you tortured yourself for years over it. How you went to prison. And I know my grandma eventually forgave you. And so did everyone else because it was just a terrible accident. You didn’t mean to hurt anyone,” Holly said. Eric listened quietly as Holly talked.

“I also realize that the night I had OD’d, I offered Tate some of those pills, too. And if he had taken them, he could have died. And that would have been my fault. And I guess what I’m trying to say is, it’s not my place to judge. And the truth is you’ve been a great father to me, Eric. And I’m so happy to have had you in my life. And so is my mom. And so is Jude,” Holly said. “You have no idea how much that means to me,” Eric countered. Eric hugged Holly.

When Eric noted that he was relieved to have had the conversation with Holly before he returned to Paris, she was surprised. Eric told Holly the full story about Fiona’s hit-and-run and that Brady had been cleared. “My god, I went after Brady so hard. And all Tate did was stand by his dad’s side. I mean, I was so angry at him for that,” Holly said. Eric assured Holly that Tate would understand why she had been angry. With a sigh, Holly admitted that her anger had not been about Tate or Brady, but about how Daniel had died.

“I guess I must have transferred some of those feelings onto Brady,” Holly said. “Understandable,” Eric noted. Holly told Eric she had snooped on Brady and didn’t think Tate would forgive her. Holly told Eric that Tate was likely dating Sophia.

Eric noted that Holly had never expected to forgive him or Nicole, but she had. “I know Tate cares about you. And I know that he will forgive you at some point. I just think it might take a little time,” Eric said. With a shake of her head, Holly argued that she needed to tell Tate how sorry she was that she had hurt him. “Especially before Sophia gets her claws in him, and it’s too late,” Holly said. Holly headed home, and she texted Tate and asked if they could talk.

Julie greeted Chad at the Horton house when he returned home from Paris. “Where’s Abigail?” Julie asked. When Chad lowered his eyes, Julie guessed that Abigail had not recovered her memories. “It wasn’t Abigail. It was all a hoax. Jennifer was right all along,” Chad said. “I’m so sorry. And it’s Clyde Weston again? God, what does he expect to get out of it this time?” Julie asked. Chad told Julie about the plan for Chad to marry Cat so she could take Chad’s money and give it to Clyde.

“Yesterday, I married a woman I barely knew,” Chad admitted. Julie was stunned. Chad called himself an idiot. Julie guessed that fake Abigail had convinced Chad that a wedding would help her recover all her memories. Chad nodded yes. “I just so desperately wanted to believe it, and so I fell for it,” Chad said. “It’s not legal,” Julie argued. With a shake of his head, Chad said he felt like he had been unfaithful to Abigail’s memory.

“The only dishonorable thing in this equation is that woman. And where did she come from? Who is she?” Julie asked. Chad told Julie that the woman’s real name was Cat Greene and that her brother had faked the DNA test. “Which is not all he did,” Chad said. Julie asked about the details, but Chad shook his head. “What’s important is that it is all over,” Chad said. Julie said she was grateful that they had not told the children that their mother was alive.

“[Cat] was the person that persuaded me not to. She said she wanted to protect the kids,” Chad said. Julie reminded Chad that Cat had used that excuse many times. “You’re not going to believe her this time, are you?” Julie asked. When Julie argued that Cat had only been interested in Chad’s fortune, he noted that Clyde had forced Cat to obey.

“Clyde Weston has her mother. He’s holding her hostage, and he threatened to kill her if [Cat] didn’t go through with the plan,” Chad explained. Julie scoffed at the idea. When Chad noted that Cat had claimed to have had real feelings for him, Julie raised a suspicious eyebrow. Julie asked about the wedding vows memory, and Chad told Julie that Cat had taken them from the attic and memorized them.

“When she read them out loud, it made me believe. And it did something to her,” Chad said. Chad thought about when Cat had recited Abigail’s wedding vows. “Don’t tell me you’re going to start feeling sorry for a con artist,” Julie said. Chad reiterated that he was angry with Cat. When Julie asked about Jack and Jennifer, Chad confirmed that J.J. had broken the news to Abigail’s parents.

“And I wanted to tell you in person, Julie. You’ve been with me through all of this. You’re my rock,” Chad said. Julie clasped Chad’s hand. “Well, you’re mine,” Julie said. Julie told Chad that she could not have gotten through the fire without him. “My heart’s aching for you, sweetheart,” Julie said.

At the Salem Police Station, Cat paced a jail cell. An officer deposited her brother Mark in the next jail cell. Once the officer was gone, Cat asked Mark if their mother was dead. “I don’t know if it actually happened,” Mark said. Mark explained that he had been unable to reach Clyde on the phone, and they had to assume that Clyde knew that the plan had failed. Cat refused to give up hope.

“So after all we did, deceiving Chad, his entire family, we just threw away our lives, all of our freedom for nothing?” Cat said. “I even just threw away my one phone call just now. But at least I didn’t kill Chad in cold blood,” Mark said. As Mark turned his back to his sister, Cat whispered, “Thank god.” Mark paced his cell, and Cat watched him with pity.

“You must have been so tormented being told you had to kill Chad,” Cat said. “And the only reason I did it was because I knew that if I didn’t, Clyde would send someone else to do it. To kill an innocent man and a father,” Mark lamented. Cat assured Mark that he would not have considered killing Chad if he had not been attempting to save their mother’s life. “But still, I hate myself for going along with it,” Mark said. When Mark looked at Cat, she realized that Mark knew that she had feelings for Chad.

“Guess it’s kind of understandable, isn’t it? Here’s this wonderful guy who loves his wife so much. I was pretending to be her. Would have had to have a heart of stone not to have responded to that,” Cat said. Cat talked about how excited Chad had been to have his wife back. “He’s such a good guy. A good dad. A good husband. And I broke his heart,” Cat said. “And I was going to take his life,” Mark whispered. With a shake of her head, Cat noted that it no longer mattered because Chad hated them both and could never forgive them.

“And what about Aaron and Felicity? What are they going to do without you?” Cat asked Mark. With a shrug, Mark said he was not sure whether their siblings even knew he had been arrested. “They’re gonna find out about me and everything I did,” Cat said. “You’re their sister. They love you. That’s not going to change,” Mark said. With a sigh, Cat noted that she missed her family. “They need us, so we’re going to find a way to come out of this. Somehow. We will. Okay? Together,” Mark said. An officer returned to take Cat up to the interrogation room. Cat was surprised to see that her visitor was Chad.

Steve went to the penthouse to talk to Marlena about the situation with Chad and Cat. “I can’t even imagine how hard this must be for [Chad]. You know, finding out that this woman he thought was Abigail is an imposter,” Marlena said. “And been lying to us all for months,” Steve added. Marlena asked about Chad. Steve explained that Chad had been quiet on the trip home. When Steve told Marlena the whole story, she was shocked to hear about Mark Greene’s involvement.

“Kayla was, too. She said [Mark] was one of the best doctors on staff,” Steve said. Marlena asked for information on the connection between Mark, Cat, and Clyde. “Believe it or not, there’s a silver lining to all of this, Marlena. And it affects John directly,” Steve said. Steve reminded Marlena that John had been found in the same apartment as Cat.

“We knew there had to be some connection,” Marlena said. “Well, there is. The Abigail imposter’s real name is Cat Greene. She was named after her mother, Catharina,” Steve said. Marlena raised an eyebrow, and she noted that there were a lot of Catharinas in the world. Steve explained that he had questioned Cat, and she had confirmed that her mother’s maiden name had been Meleounis.

“The same Catharina John supposedly killed when he was the Pawn,” Steve said. “How is this possible? You were there the night that John shot Catharina. You saw her lying there,” Marlena said. Steve confirmed that he had believed that Catharina had died and that Konstantin must have also believed that his daughter had died. “But he was unconscious after John and I bolted out of there. So what happened after that is anybody’s guess,” Steve said. Marlena asked what Cat said about the situation, but Steve said he had not mentioned it to Cat because he did not think Cat knew anything about his past with her mother.

“Where is [Catharina] now? We’ve got to find her. We’ve got to talk to her,” Marlena said. Steve told Marlena what Cat and Mark had said about their mother. Steve added that he did not know if Catharina was still alive or if Clyde had killed her. “How did Clyde manage to communicate from prison?” Marlena asked. Steve told Marlena that he had warned Shane of the situation, and Shane had promised to employ extra security to stop Clyde from being able to communicate outside the prison.

“How do we keep her safe if we don’t know where she is?” Marlena said. “We can’t,” Steve admitted. With a smile, Marlena noted that in the meantime, she was happy to tell John that he had not killed Catharina. “He’s an innocent man,” Marlena said as she picked up the phone to call John.

After Marlena talked to John, she went to the pub to say goodbye to Eric. Eric told Marlena about Holly’s decision to forgive Nicole and him. “I’m just grateful that she and Nicole were able to work things out,” Eric said. Marlena told Eric that she would miss him, and he said he felt the same way. “I’m really happy it’s working out the way that it did, that you get to be with your baby and the woman you love,” Marlena said. “I just hope and pray to god that we’ll live closer one day,” Eric said. Marlena promised to video chat, and Eric agreed.

Marlena gave Eric John’s regards. “And I will fill you in later, but he’s had some major news that he’s still processing,” Marlena said. Eric asked if John was okay. Marlena assured Eric that it was good news.
