At Alex’s apartment, Joy begged Alex not to tell Chanel the truth. Alex heard a knock at the door and answered it, only to find Chanel. She stated that she had stopped by to tell Alex something, and Alex replied that he had something to tell Chanel as well. When Chanel came inside, she was surprised to see Joy, who claimed that she had been running lines with Alex. Chanel asked Alex what he wanted to say, but Joy interrupted and inquired about Johnny. Chanel said that Johnny had gotten sick from the cupcakes but was feeling better.

Alex confirmed he was on the mend as well, and Chanel assured him that the bakery had nothing to do with the cupcakes. She also mentioned Johnny’s dream and his uttering of Joy’s name, which drew reactions from both Alex and Joy. Chanel waxed poetic about Johnny and how the incident had reinforced to her how much she loved her husband. Chanel again asked Alex what he had meant to say. He replied that he wasn’t sure if he would be able to come to work the next day as he was still recovering.

Chanel said she understood, wished Alex a speedy recovery, and left. When they were alone again, Joy wondered why Alex had not told Chanel about her and Johnny. He claimed he had not said anything for Chanel’s sake because he didn’t want to hurt her. After Alex expressed reticence about his decision, Joy pledged that she and Johnny were a thing of the past. She reiterated that forgetting about the hook-up would be in everyone’s best interest.

At the DiMera mansion, EJ entered Johnny’s room to check on his son. Johnny sighed and proclaimed that while he felt better physically, he was still an emotional wreck. He lamented how awkward it had been to spend so much time together with Joy and Chanel. Johnny also told EJ how Chanel had walked in on him saying Joy’s name in his sleep. While Johnny had been able to talk his way out of that situation, guilt weighed on him.

Johnny pondered whether it would be better to tell Chanel the truth before she found out another way. EJ argued that honesty could destroy Johnny’s marriage since EJ believed Johnny and Chanel were back on the right track. Later, Chanel returned from her visit with Alex and hugged Johnny. She told him the good news about the bakery being cleared of any involvement with the cupcakes and then mentioned how she had found Joy with Alex. Chanel smiled and insinuated that something romantic could be going on between her co-stars.

When Johnny expressed confusion, Chanel clarified that she had sensed a secret vibe with Alex and Joy. After getting an assurance from Johnny that he was okay, Chanel affirmed her love and hugged him. Johnny wore a guilty expression.

Leo burst into Marlena’s office and dramatically declared, “My life is over.” After Leo rambled incoherently for a bit, Marlena calmed him and got him to reveal that he was having problems in both his work life and his love life. Marlena was surprised at the latter, as she didn’t know that Leo was involved in a relationship. Leo confirmed it was new and then told Marlena all the details about his involvement with Javi and his accusation that Javi was Lady Whistleblower. Leo admitted that while initially believing Javi had betrayed him, Javi’s reaction convinced him he had made a mistake.

Leo bemoaned his pattern of sabotaging his life and his relationships. Marlena was willing to offer her insight, and Leo jumped at the chance to hear Marlena’s “hoity-toity yet menschy” advice. Marlena suggested that Leo’s experience with Dimitri had made him afraid of getting hurt. Therefore, as a defense mechanism, Leo pushed away and destroyed any opportunity for love.

Leo believed that assessment summed up most of his relationships. He wondered what he could do to make things right with Javi. Marlena urged Leo to make a sincere apology to Javi.

At Rafe’s place, a dejected Javi sat at the kitchen table. Rafe arrived home and joined his cousin, who offered Rafe a beer. Rafe told Javi that Jada was replacing him as police commissioner. Javi could relate to Rafe’s feelings since he was experiencing his own relationship woes. Rafe pondered who Javi could have met so quickly, and Javi reluctantly admitted it was Leo.

Rafe recalled Javi and Leo flirting at the bar, but he had thought Gabi had successfully swayed Javi away from Leo. Javi confirmed Gabi had tried but that he had been pulled in by Leo’s humor, eccentricity, and sexiness. Javi hinted that his brief flirtation with Leo had ended in disaster. Rafe wanted details, so Javi told him about his and Leo's night together and Leo’s accusation.

Rafe seemed amused after Javi told all, and Javi cracked that he was glad he could give his cousin a laugh. Rafe thought that Javi seemed too defensive, which made Javi think that Rafe didn’t fully believe his protests about not being Lady Whistleblower. Rafe asked Javi if he had written the column, but Javi continued denying culpability. Rafe tried to comfort Javi by assuring him that he had “dodged a bullet” with Leo.

After Rafe left, Javi answered the door to an unwanted guest. Leo asked if he could come inside, and Javi grudgingly let him in. Leo tried to give Javi flowers that he had retrieved from the set. Leo explained that the flowers had saved a life on the show and hoped they could save his and Javi’s relationship. Javi testily reminded Leo that they weren’t in a relationship.

Leo profusely apologized for his previous treatment of Javi and asked if Javi would be willing to give them another chance. Javi refused and showed Leo the door. When Leo sadly walked out, Javi looked conflicted.

Paulina stormed into Jada’s office and demanded the commissioner find Hattie. She complained that Jada was not doing her job quickly enough and insinuated that she was having second thoughts about Jada’s role as commissioner. Jada calmly replied that she could give Rafe his job back if Paulina had reservations. Paulina backed off and apologized for lashing out at Jada. She blamed her behavior on worrying about Abe and her desire to see his poisoner brought to justice.

Jada reminded Paulina that she could relate to someone with harmful intent going after a loved one. She promised Paulina that she would apprehend Hattie.

Later, Rafe dropped by the office with food for Jada. She updated him on her exchange with “tough cookie” Paulina. Rafe advised her to keep Paulina informed at all times. Rafe and Jada’s talk turned to Javi. Jada was surprised when Rafe to her about his cousin’s involvement with Leo.

In Horton Town Square, Paulina saw a woman who appeared to be Hattie with a bakery bag and rushed up to her. Paulina announced to a startled Marlena that she was making a “citizen’s arrest.” Paulina couldn’t believe that “Hattie” would dare show her face in the square with more cupcakes in hand. Marlena lifted the bag and said it contained a croissant. Paulina realized her mistake and again apologized, this time to Marlena.
