Time will tell on Days of our Lives if Tony DiMera beats the Kiriakis clan for control of Titan. However, if their recent encounter is any indication, our money is on the DiMera patriarch. For his portrayal of the ever commanding Count, Soap Central bestows Performer of the Week honors on his portrayer, Thaao Penghlis.

Technically, Tony may have been outnumbered when the Kiriakis trio of Maggie (Suzanne Rogers), Xander (Paul Telfer), and Philip (John-Paul Laviosier) walked into the DiMera living room. Maggie claimed that Harold, the butler, had told them to show themselves in. "Yes, well, Harold was right," Tony quipped in that inimitable style Penghlis first displayed on daytime when he was Victor Cassadine on General Hospital.
No one should ever try to pull one over on Tony because he's usually two steps ahead of his adversaries. Initially, Penghlis chose not to make eye contact with his guests. It's a subtle but effective choice that shows Tony was in the power position
After Xander explained that Titan would be remaining with the Kiriakis family, Tony quipped, "My, my, it seems I've overestimated your financial literacy." Tony quoted Shakespeare by telling the Kiriakis clan that "The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool."
One against three

In other words, he is surprised that Maggie, Philip, and Xander thought they could keep Titan and also save it -- something that Tony believes is financially not sound. The Count was outnumbered in the room, so he opted to divide and conquer as he stood between Maggie and Philip (the woman Victor loved and the son he loved), and Xander -- the man whose identity Victor did not acknowledge. "What I can not fathom is why you're protecting the legacy of a man who didn't even acknowledge you as his son when he was alive," Victor said to Xander.
Tony's attempt to shake the trio's unity was transparent, but he was also speaking the truth. Maggie matched Tony's resolve, informing him that they were not backing down. "Yes, well, until then, I'll take DiMera back, and you can pick up the scraps of what's left of the mighty Titan industries," Tony shrugged.
Tony made one last dig by predicting to Victor's family that he would emerge as the winner in no time at all. "I suspect I'll be snapping Titan up in a matter of months," he said. "You're going to have to hold an embarrassing fire sale."
Bravo to Penghlis for showing us that while Tony may not be Stefano's (Joe Mascolo) offspring by blood, he is in every other way his father's son.
