Days of our Lives alum Molly Burnett (ex-Melanie Jonas) has been upped to a series regular position on Queen of the South, the USA Network series that follows a woman who is forced to run from a Mexican cartel and seek refuge in America.
Former daytime star Molly Burnett (ex-Melanie Jonas, Days of our Lives; ex-Maxie Jones, General Hospital) has a big reason to celebrate. The actress, who has been playing the recurring role of Kelly Anne on USA's Queen of the South since the show's second season, has been promoted to series regular for the show's upcoming fifth season.
Starring Alice Braga, Queen of the South is an adaptation of the telenovela La Reina del Sur, which is also an adaptation of the bestselling novel of the same name by Spanish author Arturo Prez-Reverte. The series centers around Teresa Mendoza, a poor Mexican woman who becomes wealthy by building a vast drug empire.
Living in the barrio of Jalisco, Mexico, Theresa falls in love with a member of a drug cartel and tries to rise above her life's impoverished condition. When her boyfriend is murdered, however, she is forced to flee to the United States, where she teams up with a person from her past in order to take down the leader of the drug ring that is after her. Theresa ends up starting her own drug-distributing organization and becomes very wealthy -- which presents her with more problems of a different kind.

Burnett's Kelly Anne is a Dallas socialite who's an on-again, off-again member of Teresa's drug operation. Her journey thus far has included killing her abusive husband, turning into an informant, dodging a cartel hit, and falling into cocaine addiction (and here we all thought Melanie's life was dramatic!). Kelly Ann was last seen at the end of season four, finding sobriety and working her way back into Teresa's operations in New Orleans.
Burnett starred on NBC's Days of our Lives from 2008 to 2012 and again for a short arc in 2016. She has also temporarily stepped in for Kirsten Storms in the role of General Hospital's Maxie Jones on two different occasions, in 2016 and 2018. Burnett's other credits include recurring roles on CSI: Cyber, Relationship Status, and True Blood.
