Catch Days of our Lives star Meredith Scott Lynn (Anne Milbauer) on Home & Family, where she'll be discussing Write Brain Books, her line of textless, illustrated books that allow young readers to create their own stories.
Days of our Lives fans love when Meredith Scott Lynn drops into Salem as Anne Milbauer, but it turns out acting isn't the New York native's only major talent. She is also the brains behind Write Brain Books, a line of textless, illustrated children's books that foster creative writing skills by allowing kids to write their own stories, publish beautiful hardcover copies, and build a personal library of self-authored books.
Lynn will be appearing on Hallmark's Home & Family this Monday, July 22, to discuss her ingenious idea, which she says stemmed from spending time with her niece, Lila. After unwittingly stumbling upon a textless book and having to jump into imagination mode to calm her niece's wailing, Lynn had an aha moment that led her to create Write Brain Books. But the books' purpose runs much deeper than just entertainment.
"I see a world in which young people (especially tweens and teens) are making fewer connections; not just to other people but also to big picture and holistic concepts, dreams for their future and to their own ideas," the actress explains on Write Brain Books' official website. "Kids today are constantly overloaded and over stimulated. Their experiences are shared instantly and forgotten quickly while their responses are automatic and auto-corrected. They text, type, scroll, and swipe while handwriting becomes a thing of our past. Your kids' brains are being forced to develop fast-processing skills at the expense of vitally important, slow-processing skills such as critical thinking, and the abilities to empathize and make connections. Studies say that most kids spend an average of 74 hours per week on a digital device of some kind. This level of exposure crowds their minds and provides immediate, though often substance less gratification. They are auto corrected at every turn, think less and less for themselves, and soon won't know how to sign their own name."

Lynn's ultimate hope is that Write Brain Books will help offset some of the negative impacts of our digital world, allowing kids an avenue to develop creativity and self-confidence.
"I created Write Brain Books to give young people of any age opportunities to slow down and shine -- especially at school where they are graded and assessed at every turn," she says. "Whether in the classroom, at home, in a restaurant or on an airplane, writing an original story to artwork interpreted by you is an exciting experience!"
