A shocked and devastated Carter listened in as Hope told Liam that she didn't want to spend any more time apart because their future was together. "I mean it, Liam. I will always be here for you, and you still have a future with Beth and me. I love you. I will always love you," Hope cried.
He walked away before hearing the rest. Liam began talking about his illness, which could have clued Carter in to what's really been going on.
"I wish I had more time before you started looking at me differently. I don't want to spend the rest of my life seeing sadness in the eyes of the people I love," Liam said. Hope stressed that she wanted to cherish whatever time they had left. "We don't have much time as we think we do, so we owe it to ourselves to make the most of it," Liam added.
Liam wanted Hope to do just that, but not necessarily with him. "Hope, you deserve to be happy. You deserve someone to grow old with. Someone to give you everything I wanted to but couldn't. Take my advice. Repair your relationship with Carter. If you forgive him, happiness will follow," Liam insisted.
Hope told Liam not to worry about her but to focus on herself. Liam admitted he was terrified, but knowing the people he loves were happy helped him emotionally. Liam then recalled the first time they met. "My heart skipped a beat the second I saw you," Liam told Hope. "That Liam? He never could have imagined all the suffering he was about to put you through."
Liam also told Hope that the way she once looked at him was now the way she looked at Carter. "I wasted so much time in our relationship when I could have been making things right. Please, don't make the same mistake that I did," Liam begged.
Liam felt that Carter's betrayal meant nothing in the scheme of things. "The anger and resentment? It's pointless. Do you still love Carter?" he asked. Hope said that she did. "Then you need to go to him...and you repair that relationship before it's too late," Liam said.
Steffy continued lamenting Liam's plight to Finn and Taylor. "How am I supposed to tell Kelly that Liam is dying?" she asked. Taylor and Finn promised to be there to support Steffy. "You're not alone in this," Finn said, but Steffy pointed out that Liam wanted to be alone in this. "He needs to be surrounded by people who truly care about him," Steffy added.
"Be honest with me. Do you think I made the right decision telling Hope?" Steffy asked. Taylor assured her that for Beth's sake, it was certainly the right thing to do. Finn told Steffy and Taylor that he had patients who chose to die alone because they didn't want to hurt their loved ones.
Steffy rightfully pointed out that choosing that was still hurting loved ones. "You're just wasting precious time. Wyatt and Will, they would be right by Liam's side. And Bill, he would exhaust every option just to make Liam feel comfortable," she said. Finn admitted the families he knew were devastated when their loved ones chose to die alone.
"But Liam isn't alone. He has you and Hope, two women who mean the world to him and who will help him face what's coming," Finn said. Steffy kept repeating that none of this was fair, but Finn reminded her it was reality. "Tomorrow isn't promised to any of us," he morbidly said.
Daphne sat at the design office desk, thinking about Carter. Brooke interrupted her thoughts, telling Daphne that she wanted to talk to her about Hope and Carter. "They have been going through a very challenging time," Brooke said. "Challenging implies that there's something to accomplish, but there isn't. Hope gave up on Carter and their relationship," Daphne replied.
Brooke insisted that Carter and Hope loved one another and would find their way back to each other. "I respect you coming to Hope's defense. She's your daughter. But she's no good for Carter," Daphne noted, just before a distraught Carter appeared. He asked Brooke to leave so he could speak to Daphne alone.
Daphne immediately knew something was off. "How could my instincts have been so wrong?" Carter asked. He told Daphne he had to get out of there, but she insisted on coming with him. "Wherever you're going, you can't be alone," she said.
Carter brought Daphne back to his apartment, where he remained quiet and pensive. Daphne prodded him to tell her what happened. Carter lamented all his mistakes and past relationship failures. "Yet here I am still caring for you," Daphne purred.
Daphne poured on her usual charm and chastised Hope. "She has a history of going from man to man. I wouldn't be surprised if she goes back to Liam," Daphne said. Carter looked as if he was finally ready to relent and give in to Daphne's advances.
