On The Bold and the Beautiful, often, the storyline talks about an issue that is both current and relatable or a cautionary tale. That was the case with Remy Pryce.

On The Bold and the Beautiful, Christian Weissmann played the role of Remy Pryce, a troubled young man with a dark secret. He grew up and attended school with Electra Forrester (Laneya Grace) in Dallas, TX. It was during this time he made deep fake or AI-altered photos of Electra in partial nude and nude form before putting them online. Electra left her hometown, moved to L.A., and started working for Forrester Creations, but Remy followed her to L.A. His sinister intent was to isolate Electra and get her fired from her job so that he would be the one she turned to when needing a shoulder to cry on. To do this, he once again altered photos of Electra and sent them to Katie Logan (Heather Tom), who, as Head of PR for Forrester Creations, had her fired.

Photo enhancement or cyberbullying

The message here on The Bold and the Beautiful is one of caution: no longer can we look at an image online and assume it's genuine or what was caught with a camera lens. We need to look no further than beauty magazines and pictures on social media by so-called fitness influencers. Nothing is as it seems in the world of online images anymore. People want more and expect more. What started with Photoshop as a way to enhance a photo and make a more dramatic sky or brighten a shaded area has now become a software that adds physical features like muscle tone, teeth straightening, or in the high stakes and big money world of fashion, it’s making models appear slimmer and more fitting of the beauty standards that women and men alike now have to aim to. What we see no longer accurately reflects the person the image is of, which can be scary.

The use of images not approved by the individual in question is illegal, and the use and distribution of altered images of a person constitute a crime. Beginning in 2019, several states passed legislation aimed at the use of deepfakes. These laws do not apply exclusively to deepfakes created by AI. Instead, they more broadly apply to deceptive manipulated audio or visual images created with malice that falsely depict others without their consent. The use of this in the Remy Pryce storyline on The Bold and the Beautiful made viewers more aware of the issue and drew attention to the dangerous digital age we now live in. Stay safe online, and if you see something, say something.

Thankfully for Electra, her boyfriend Will (Crew Morrow) knew something was off about Remy. Will managed to intervene before Remy went further than online bullying and seriously hurt or even killed Electra. Remy was taken into police custody off-camera, and, for now, the threat has been neutralized. What's next for Electra and Will? Stay tuned as the recently released Luna Nazowa (Lisa Yamada) has been eyeing up photos of Will at his father's house, where she is on house arrest.
