Bradley Bell reveals long term plans for Karla Mosley's Maya, whom he calls B&B's new leading lady

The Bold and the Beautiful's executive producer/head writer, Bradley Bell, says Karla Mosley's Maya is here to stay, and her reign as the series' newest leading lady kicks off with a huge fashion show that will feature some of the world's most well-known real-life transgender models.

For those fans who may be worrying about the future of The Bold and the Beautiful's Maya (Karla Mosley) now that she's been revealed as a transgender woman, worry no more, because the show's executive producer/head writer, Bradley Bell, says the character is definitely a leading lady who's in it for the long haul.

"Karla Mosley has emerged as the leading lady of B&B, and she'll remain so," the exec reveals to TV Insider, adding that the story between Maya and her on-screen romantic partner, Rick Forrester (Jacob Young), is actually in its very early stages. "This is a really fresh and unique love story, and we're only beginning. Maya will be asked to return to Forrester Creations as the company's lead model, and we'll be doing a big fashion show [airing Thursday, July 16, and Friday, July 17] where half the models are transgender, including Isis King and Carmen Carrera, who are both very well known. We just shot it and it's incredibly beautiful and really fun to watch. It speaks to our continued commitment to Maya's story and to the transgender community."

Of course, not all will be glitz and glamour for Maya, whom Bell says is subject to all the same drama as typical soap opera characters. "Who's to say there won't be another woman entering the picture for Maya, or another transgender character?" he teases. "This is truly a unique set of circumstances -- hard to find in soaps these days -- so it's been great fun thinking of the possibilities. Right now, we're concentrating on developing a strong foundation for Rick and Maya, one that is to be respected and admired. But trouble will come. It always does."
