Crystal Chappell to tackle filmmaking as both producer and star

Crystal Chappell, soap star and web soap pioneer, announced that her production company will be producing its first film, which Chappell will also star in.

The multi-talented and extremely busy Crystal Chappell (Danielle Spencer; ex-Olivia Spencer, Guiding Light; ex-Carly Manning, Days of our Lives) has a new project in the works. The actress announced on her blog that her production company, Open Book Productions, is partnering with Perfect Features to produce a film.

Not only will Chappell be producing the film, she'll be starring in it. "And, yes, fortunately, the script was written for me and I couldn't be more blown away! How lucky am I? I'm excited to not only produce Open Book's first film but, also, star in it," she wrote. This will be the fist feature film from both Perfect Features and Open Book.

This may be her first time producing a feature film, but Chappell is no stranger to behind-the-camera work. She may be most recognizable due to the memorable soap opera characters she's portrayed, but she also wrote, produced, and created the popular web series Venice. She followed her success on Venice with another web series, The Grove.

Most recently, Chappell and Open Book partnered with Bella Productions to create Beacon Hill, a web series centered in the political realm, which premiers March 5, 2014, and stars Alicia Minshew (ex-Kendall Hart, All My Children) and Sarah Brown (ex-Carly Jacks and ex-Claudia Zacchara, General Hospital; ex-Agnes Jones, B&B; ex-Madison James, DAYS). Chappell says Open Book is looking into the possibility of making a Beacon Hill television pilot as well.
